The Italian National Institute of Social Security (INPS) has unveiled important updates for the Universale Unique Allowance (AUU) for 2025, aiming to adapt financial support to the needs of families as they grapple with rising living costs.
Effective January 1, 2025, these updates include incremented support amounts which are set to benefit families with children. The INPS has ensured, through Circular No. 33, released on February 4, 2025, that families who already have approved AUU requests will not need to submit new applications, except for children reaching adulthood or new births. Yet, families must report any significant changes, such as the birth of another child, to maintain accurate benefit distributions.
The importance of the ISEE—the indicator for the economic situation—is underscored, as families are required to submit updated ISEE calculations by June 30, 2025. Failing to update their income declarations means starting March 2025, only a minimum allowance will be distributed.
From February 2025, beneficiaries will notice their AUU payments increase by 0.8%, corresponding to the rise in living expenses recorded by INPS. For specific groups hitting certain thresholds, this year brings substantial boosts. For parents with children under the age of one, the allowance increases by 50% until the child turns one. For families with at least three children and whose ISEE does not exceed €45,939.56, the AUU will also see increases effective for children aged between one and three.
The latest adjustments mean families with four or more children will receive a fixed increase of €150 per month.
Notably, for January and February 2025, transitory allowances will be distributed to families earning below €25,000, especially those who were recipients of the Family Allowance (ANF) back in 2021.
Payments corresponding to the new AUU amounts will commence starting February 2025, with all pending arrears from January being settled by March. INPS has clarified the need for accurate calculations to align benefits with the household's economic frameworks as represented by the ISEE.
For families wishing to access the updated ISEE, applications can be submitted through the Unified ISEE Portal, the INPS mobile app, or with assistance from other welfare organizations. Families are encouraged to act swiftly to capture the benefits accrued during this transitional phase.
The adjustments to AUU reflect the continuing effort of the Italian government to support families amid economic fluctuations, ensuring the assistance provided meets the current cost of living challenges. For many families, the timely submission of their updated ISEE holds the key to unlocking the full spectrum of benefits they are entitled to receive.
With these measures, the INPS aims not only to alleviate financial pressures on families but also to adapt its support mechanisms to reflect socioeconomic shifts within the country. The comprehensive updates bring hope as families embrace the coming year with increased financial stability, ready to support their children’s growth and needs more effectively.
