Siberian Cities Set New Temperature Records Amid Climate Concerns

Recent assessments reveal significant rises in temperatures across several Siberian cities, emphasizing the ongoing climate change crisis.

Siberia has recently experienced unprecedented temperatures, breaking multiple historical records across several cities. The Hydrometeorological Center of Russia reported that in Novosibirsk, a new high of 8.9 degrees Celsius was recorded, eclipsing the previous record of 8.1 degrees set back in the year 2000.

Other cities in Siberia also reported temperature spikes that have surpassed earlier highs. Irkutsk reached 17.3 degrees, breaking its previous record of 12 degrees established in 2014. Meanwhile, Krasnoyarsk recorded 14.9 degrees, exceeding its prior maximum of 14.6 degrees from 2004.

In Abakan, a significant rise was observed as temperatures hit 19 degrees, breaking the old record of 17.1 degrees, also from 2014. Omsk registered 5.7 degrees, surpassing the record of 5.6 degrees set in 2020, while Tomsk marked a high of 9.6 degrees against the previous record of 8.3 degrees in 2017.

Kemerovo experienced a record temperature of 10.8 degrees, surpassing the earlier record of 9.7 degrees from 2014. Barnaul saw temperatures rise to 12.1 degrees, compared to the previous high of 11.8 degrees from 1981. Kyzyl reported an impressive 21.5 degrees, breaking the earlier record of 18 degrees from 2014.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the climbing temperatures are a stark indication of the ongoing effects of climate change and shifting weather patterns in the region.
