Sia Welcomes Third Child Amid Divorce Proceedings

Pop star Sia files for divorce from husband Daniel Bernad as she navigates motherhood and new music.

In a surprising turn of events, pop singer-songwriter Sia has made headlines for more than just her music. The talented artist, known for her hits like "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart," is currently navigating the complex terrain of motherhood and divorce simultaneously.

According to court documents obtained by E! News, Sia welcomed her third child, Somersault Wonder Bernad, with her now-estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, on March 27, 2024. This birth came quietly amidst their tumultuous relationship, just weeks before Sia filed for divorce on March 19, 2025, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. The couple has officially separated as of March 18, 2025.

While filing for divorce, Sia has made it clear that her primary concern is her son’s well-being. She is requesting sole legal and physical custody of Somersault, although she has expressed willingness to grant visitation rights to Bernad. In the same breath, Sia has declared that she will not be seeking spousal support from her husband.

Behind this recent chapter in Sia's life lies her experience as a mother. Back in 2019, she adopted two teenage boys who were aging out of the foster care system. The decision reportedly stemmed from a deep desire to provide a loving home to children in need. In a previous conversation with Vogue Australia, Sia recounted how she first saw one of her sons in a documentary about foster care and felt compelled to adopt him. "I was like: ‘What? Like, he doesn’t have anybody. Oh my god. I’m going to find him and I’m going to be his mummy,'" Sia recalled.

Reflecting on her journey as a mother to her sons, Sia shared with SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up that they were doing well, engaging in educational activities and working hard to build a life for themselves. She even humorously stated that she had become a grandmother when her youngest son had two babies, exclaiming, "I'm a f--king grandma!" That remark highlighted her evolving family dynamics and enviable ability to adapt.

As Sia continues to express her mission to provide a nurturing environment for her family, she has also hinted at her aspirations to foster more children in the future. "The next thing I’m planning to do is foster actual infants. Maybe [their mother] is drug-addicted and then I could help look after them until, you know, their mum can get back on the wagon or an adoptive home is found," she mentioned during an interview, demonstrating her heartfelt commitment to serving vulnerable children.

Despite her personal struggles, Sia remains active in her career. She recently collaborated with David Guetta on the dance anthem "Beautiful People," which debuted impressively at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

While the public may have an interest in her personal affairs, Sia’s tight-lipped nature about her private life ensures that most details remain under wraps. Her focus on her children's future, combined with her ongoing artistic journey, paints a picture of resilience.

As fans continue to support her both personally and professionally, Sia's commitment to her family and her craft shines bright, reinforcing her ability to adapt and thrive. This multifaceted journey of motherhood and divorce serves not only as a testament to her strength but also as an exploration of love in all its forms.
