The SHOWbiz 2025 concert event kicked off on January 5, 2025, at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, marking the beginning of what is anticipated to be a spectacular showcase of junior artists. Running until January 13, this concert series features around 90 performers, ranging from the elder members like 中村嶺亜 of 7 MEN 侍 to the youngest “next-generation juniors” just 8 years old.
This dynamic event is structured around various themes, with blocks dedicated to genres such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Future, Universe, Rock & Dance, Show & Sports, and Japanese music. Each performance is enhanced with dazzling special effects including laser shows, circular stage designs with jet fountains, balloon releases, flying objects, and even basketball dunking routines.
One of the concert's standout elements is its emphasis on audience involvement; during the 'guest descent' segments, junior artists even made their way to the uppermost seats of the arena, blurring the line between performers and fans. Another highlight is the return of the "Junior Mansion" segment, where individual performers showcase their skills within differently sized metal frames, adding another fascinating layer to the show.
The concert comprises 39 tracks, featuring songs from both long-established groups such as TOKIO and KinKi Kids, as well as newer entries like Aぇ! group. Interestingly, the arrangement for this concert was done such to abandon the typical group performances, instead opting for shuffled units across performances to give fans unique chances to see favorite artists performing together.
Despite the numerous changes, one constant remained: the concert is categorized as “全席着席” or “all seats reserved,” with attendees required to remain seated throughout the performance, only breaking from this lull at the grand finale.
Audience members applauded the extraordinary performances and the atmosphere where, during the closing number, fans collectively rose, waving pen lights and glow sticks. The enthusiasm from the audience as they erupted with excitement contributed significantly to the lively ambiance. A junior performer was overheard exclaiming, “そうそう! この景色!” (Yes, just like this! This view!) as they enjoyed the familiar scene of fans engaged and energized.
The SHOWbiz 2025 not only highlights Japan’s vibrant junior entertainment scene but also serves as a platform for new talent to shine. With each performance offering something different and the potential for such engaging collaborations, the future looks promising for these young stars.
Totaling 13 performances over the course of nine days, the concert offers multiple opportunities for fans to enjoy the breadth of talent on display. Upcoming showtimes include about 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM performances on various days throughout the week, with many hoping to catch as many performances as possible.
