Shots Fired At Lebanon Walmart Triggers Community Alert

Authorities confirm isolated incident as residents shelter in place amid investigation.

Authorities were summoned to Walmart of Lebanon, Tennessee, late Saturday night to respond to reports of shots fired, which necessitated a shelter-in-place request for residents nearby. Although distressing reports circulated, police later confirmed the event was part of what they believe to be an isolated incident, raising no evidence of an immediate threat to the community.

Just after 10:45 p.m. on January 4, 2025, the Lebanon Police Department (LPD) announced their presence at the site, which prompted the evacuation of the Walmart location. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Following the dangerous situation, officials advised residents living within one mile of the store to shelter indoors.

LPD detailed the suspect as being a black male, last seen wearing a black jacket and gray pants. Reports also indicated the suspect might be driving a green vehicle. They released photographs of the person of interest shortly before 11:15 p.m., intensifying their investigation.

By around midnight, the LPD communicated through social media, assuring the public, "We have NO credible evidence to believe the public is in danger," which helped to quell concern among residents as the situation unfolded.

Throughout the incident, the police remained active on the scene, updating the community and reporters alike. Early information indicated the occurrence involved only two individuals, but specifics about the incident’s motive or what precipitated the shots fired have not been disclosed by authorities.

Residents were kept informed via swift police communications, allowing them to stay updated on the investigation. Police urged anyone who might have witnessed anything or who had information about the suspect's identity to come forward. The LPD provided their contact number, 615-444-2323, to facilitate communication and aid the investigation.

The community's response was significant, as people exercised caution when following the shelter-in-place directive. At this time, the focus remains on locating the individual involved and ensuring the safety and peace of Lebanon’s residents.

This developing story is being closely monitored by local news outlets, including WKRN and WSMV, which will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
