Sharqia Governorate Advances With Development Initiatives

Innovative projects aim to protect resources and improve community welfare across Sharqia.

Sharqia Governorate, Egypt, is undergoing significant development initiatives under the lead of Governor Hazem Al-Ashmony, who has firmly committed to enforcing the laws protecting state property and enhancing community welfare.

Continuing with the efforts to safeguard agricultural lands and state assets, Al-Ashmony confirmed the execution of the third phase of removing illegal encroachments on state property, as outlined by directives from the President. He stated, "The executive apparatus, in coordination with security agencies, cut off public utilities for residences illegally built on state property." Recently, this initiative resulted in the removal of nine encroachments covering 1,864 square meters of constructed area and two illicit expansions of agricultural land totaling approximately four acres.

Meanwhile, the Sharqia region is also witnessing advancements in water supply and sanitation projects, with the provincial government emphasizing the importance of clean drinking water for its citizens. According to Amer Kamal Abu Halawa, the head of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company, "The company has completed over 7,650 awareness activities aimed at educating citizens about water conservation." These activities targeted around 286,000 residents, introducing them to the significance of safe water usage and pollution prevention through educational programs, especially among school students.

Significantly, livestock health is gaining attention too, as emphasized by Al-Ashmony, who stressed the need for veterinary support for the local cattle population to boost production and curtail diseases. The Veterinary Medicine Directorate reported substantial progress under the third national vaccination campaign, which began on November 16, 2024. Ibrahim Muhammad Metwally, the director of the veterinary department, highlighted the campaign's success, stating, "The immunization campaign has successfully vaccinated over 728,000 head of cattle to prevent foot-and-mouth disease." These efforts are part of broader public health initiatives aiming to bolster food security within the governorate.

On another front, Al-Ashmony has intensified regulatory measures against commercial sectors to uphold public health and economic integrity. He mandated surprise inspections across various businesses to confirm compliance with trade laws, stating, "We've intensified surprise inspections to assure compliance with regulations and quality standards across various commercial sectors." These inspections revealed substantial violations, including unlicensed sales and lack of documentation for multiple goods, resulting in legal actions against non-compliant vendors.

Inspections conducted by the local consumer protection agency and the supply ministry have already yielded confiscation of ten tons of fertilizers and other goods sold without the necessary paperwork. An encouraging outcome of these regulatory measures is the cooperation observed from local traders and the increasing awareness of compliant practices among them.

These collective initiatives form part of Al-Ashmony's vision to transform Sharqia and uplift its citizens by ensuring access to resources, improving infrastructure, and reinforcing the state's authority. The coordinated efforts across various governmental departments, coupled with active community engagement, are aimed at fostering sustainable development and protecting the local economy and environment.

Overall, the Sharqia Governorate stands poised for continued growth, guided by effective governance and active citizen participation. The future looks promising as these initiatives not only focus on immediate needs but also lay the groundwork for lasting community benefits, highlighting the importance of law, health, and environmental stewardship.
