Sharjah Opens New Mosques For Ramadan 2025

The initiative aims to create accessible worship spaces as the holy month approaches.

Sharjah - The Sharjah Authority of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made significant strides toward enhancing its religious infrastructure by inaugur
ing new mosques to welcome the Holy Month of Ramadan this year. The Department of Islamic Affairs Sharjah indicated the recently inaugurated mosques are spread across various areas of the emirate, collectively accommodating over 2,000 worshipers.

On March 4, 2025, Abdullah Al Sabousi, the Head of the Department of Islamic Affairs Sharjah, stated, "This is part of a broader plan by the department to open 20 new mosques in various districts of Sharjah right during the month of Ramadan." Al Sabousi elaborated, highlighting, "These projects are part of a long-term plan to expand the mosque network across the emirate, ensuring all areas are effectively served." This initiative aims to provide accessible places of worship for both residents and visitors, creating a peaceful and spiritually uplifting environment during Ramadan.

One notable mosque is the Hosn Al Khatimah Mosque located in Al Barashi. This mosque showcases modern Islamic architectural style, spans 4,072 square meters, and has been funded by a philanthropist. It can accommodate up to 400 worshipers, with 80 spaces designated for women. The design includes both the main prayer hall and supporting facilities, ensuring comfort and convenience for all visitors.

Kalba, another vibrant locale within the emirate, has welcomed two new mosques to cater to its growing Muslim population. The first is the Al Baraa Bin Aws Mosque, which can hold 850 worshipers, including 100 places for women. Located at Al Saf, this mosque combines traditional Islamic architectural styles, constructed on 2,601 square meters.

Just nearby is the Dhat Al Nitaqain Mosque located at Al Ghail. It features architectural influences from Islamic and Fatimid styles, occupying 1,747 square meters and equipped to serve 350 worshipers, including 50 dedicated spaces for women.

Additional newly inaugurated mosques include the Al Sahabi Al Tufail bin Malik Mosque situated in Al Dhaid, which offers 600 spaces for worshipers, alongside 50 designated for women. Covering 2,163 square meters, this mosque prioritizes both functionality and aesthetic appeal, located at Suhaila Tiga.

Similarly, the Umm Habib bint Al Awwam Mosque located in Khor Fakkan spans 1,930 square meters and accommodates 400 worshipers, fractioned to include 50 spaces for women.

Another notable addition is the Al Sahabi Salim bin Amr Mosque, found within the Ajmal Makan housing complex situated at Al Hamriyah, which can accommodate 250 worshipers, focusing on serving the local community with dignity.

Reflecting on the past efforts, the Department was proud to announce the opening of 40 mosques last year, with 30 mosques inaugurated before the end of Ramadan and 10 throughout the last third of the year. Such initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the Sharjah Authority to support the Islamic community and facilitate worship during significant religious observances.

This extensive project to expand the mosque network not only meets the growing needs for worship spaces but also fosters a sense of community and belonging within the emirate during Ramadan, allowing more worshipers to gather and practice their faith peacefully and joyfully.

The new mosques stand as testaments to the lasting legacy of support for religious observance and the cultural richness of the UAE. By establishing more places for worship, the Sharjah Authority is dedicated to nurturing the spirit of community worship and enhancing the fabric of Islamic life across the emirate.
