The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is taking significant strides to ensure the quality of drinking water in the emirate, adhering to the specifications and standards set by the World Health Organization. Their ongoing commitment is reflected in the extensive testing and analysis of water samples conducted throughout 2024.
According to SEWA, a total of 10,426 samples were tested at various water and analysis facilities during the year. In addition, 8,383 samples underwent examination at the main water quality laboratory. This comprehensive testing is part of SEWA's mission to provide high-quality drinking water that complies with international health standards.
Engineer Abdulrahman Bukhalef, the Director of the Water and Analysis Laboratories Department, emphasized that SEWA is dedicated to continually improving its service. “We are committed to harnessing our technical and operational capabilities to ensure that subscribers receive high-quality drinking water,” he stated. By adopting advanced scientific practices in water testing, SEWA aims to maintain the purity and safety of water supplied to the emirate.
To achieve optimal quality control, SEWA operates a network of seven laboratories, including a primary water quality lab located in the Halwan area and six additional technical labs positioned at various sites. These laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed with qualified professionals who monitor and assess water quality around the clock.
Additionally, SEWA is focusing on enhancing the efficiency and performance of its laboratories. Plans are underway to upgrade the laboratory information management system to facilitate better oversight of work performance. This includes preserving and managing data related to test results, ensuring timely reporting to all relevant authorities, and conducting necessary statistical analyses to track water quality trends within Sharjah.
In keeping with the ongoing urban and environmental growth of the emirate, SEWA has taken measures to expand its network of sample testing sites. The number of examination locations has increased to a total of 71 sites throughout Sharjah, ensuring a comprehensive monitoring system for assessing water quality continuously.
Engaging with the community remains a priority for SEWA. The authority has established multiple channels for the public to report any concerns regarding water quality. Individuals and businesses can contact the water quality department directly or reach out to the SEWA customer service center at 600566665. This proactive approach encourages the public to voice issues and allows SEWA to send specialized technicians to collect samples for further analysis swiftly.
“We urge the community and companies to communicate with us if they have any observations regarding water quality,” Bukhalef noted, stressing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining high standards. By quickly addressing such concerns, SEWA aims to implement all necessary measures efficiently.
With these ambitious plans and initiatives, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is not only enhancing the quality of drinking water in the emirate but also demonstrating leadership in water management and public health. As SEWA develops its laboratory capacities and expands monitoring sites, residents can be assured of access to safe, clean, and reliable drinking water.
As SEWA moves forward, it continues to stay abreast of advancements in technology and scientific research, thereby ensuring that the water provided is of the highest quality and safety. This unwavering dedication reflects a broader commitment to public health and the sustainable management of essential natural resources.
