Shakti Dubey Tops UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024

The UPSC declares results for CSE 2024, with 1,009 candidates recommended for prestigious positions.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the highly anticipated results of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 on April 22, 2025. This announcement marks the culmination of a rigorous selection process that began with the preliminary exams in June 2024, followed by the mains in September, and concluded with the personality tests held from January 7 to April 17, 2025. The final results determine the allocation of prestigious positions such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) among a total of 1,056 vacancies available this year.

Shakti Dubey from Prayagraj has emerged as the topper, securing the first position in one of India's most competitive examinations. Dubey, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad, achieved this remarkable feat with Political Science and International Relations as her optional subject. She has been preparing for the civil services examination since 2018, demonstrating immense dedication and perseverance throughout her journey.

Following Dubey, Harshita Goyal secured the second position. Goyal, a B.Com graduate from MS University of Baroda, also opted for Political Science and International Relations as her subject. Dongre Archit Parag claimed the third rank; he holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore, and chose Philosophy as his optional subject.

The UPSC CSE is known for its challenging three-stage process, with less than 1% of candidates ultimately selected. This year, over a million aspirants participated in the preliminary exams, but only a few thousand advanced to the mains and interview rounds. The final merit list, which will be published as a PDF on the official UPSC website, includes the roll numbers and names of candidates who successfully cleared all stages.

In total, 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment across various services. This includes 335 candidates from the General category, 109 from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 318 from the Other Backward Class (OBC), 160 from the Scheduled Caste (SC), and 87 from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. Additionally, the UPSC has maintained a consolidated reserve list of 230 candidates, ensuring that eligible candidates from various categories may be considered for service allocation if vacancies arise.

The UPSC CSE is considered one of the toughest examinations in India, attracting lakhs of candidates each year. The examination is conducted annually in three stages: preliminary, main, and interview. The preliminary examination for CSE 2024 took place on June 16, 2024, with 992,599 candidates applying. Of these, 583,213 candidates appeared for the exam, and 14,627 qualified for the main examination held in September 2024. From this pool, 2,845 candidates were selected for the personality test or interview round.

Among the top ten rank holders, three are women, reflecting a growing trend of female representation in the civil services. The complete list of the top ten candidates is as follows:
