Shakira's World Tour Postponed Again Due To Health Issues

Following multiple cancellations, fans await rescheduled dates as the singer recovers from recent abdominal concerns.

Shakira fans are heartbroken as the Colombian megastar has once again faced obstacles on her world tour, prompting her to cancel another show. Just one week after being hospitalized for abdominal issues, Shakira was scheduled to perform on February 24 at her hometown venue, Estadio Atanasio Girardot, located in Medellín, Colombia. Unfortunately, the concert has been postponed indefinitely due to safety concerns stemming from damage to the venue's roof.

A statement from the event hosts, Paramo Presenta, revealed the extent of the issue: "During the assembly process of the show scheduled for February 24, the roof of the stage installed by the local production suffered damage, putting at risk the safety of the artist, her staff, and most significantly, the audience." The promoter and Shakira's team are already working to reschedule the show but acknowledged the disappointment felt by eager fans eagerly awaiting the performance.

Shakira expressed her own dismay with heartfelt messages on social media, particularly on X. “My people from Medellín! It hurts me greatly not to be able to get onstage and sing for you as much as I wanted to,” she shared. The artist added, "My sons were excited to visit Medellín, as was I to be reunited with you and share all the surprises I had prepared for you. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have traveled. It’s out of my hands and those of my production team, but I’m sure we’ll soon find a new date to celebrate together.”

Shakira's health has also played a role in the tour's challenges. Weeks prior to the Medellín postponement, on February 16, she had to pull out of her concert in Peru due to hospitalization. “I am sorry to inform you all,” she said, “that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized.” This news raised alarm among her fan base as she revealed, “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.” Despite the setbacks, the Grammy-winning artist aimed to assure her fans, expressing sadness about missing the performance and optimism for future shows.

Shakira's world tour, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, kicked off on February 11, and her twelfth studio album of the same name had just won the prestigious award for Best Latin Pop Album at the Grammy Awards earlier this month. Interviewed prior to the tour, Shakira mentioned how excited she was to share her new music with fans and reconnect with audiences all around the world.

This tour was shaping up to be significant for Shakira, both personally, as she had shared her sons were accompanying her, and professionally, as it marked her return to the global concert scene after several years away. The recent health issues, coupled with the production setbacks, have naturally disappointed both Shakira and her supporters, who have long awaited her vibrant stage presence and compelling performances.

Stepping onto the international stage, Shakira had faced scrutiny before the launch of her tour. Fans of fellow artist Beyoncé accused her of allegedly emulating elements from Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, raising eyebrows about her creative choices. Nevertheless, the Colombian pop icon remained focused on delivering the heartfelt messages contained within her songs and reconnecting with fans yearning for her music.

With the latest postponement announcement, the promoter emphasized the importance of safety for everyone involved. “We understand this decision may be annoying for the public who were anxiously awaiting the show, but the most important thing is everyone’s safety.”

The Medellín concert, which holds significant emotional weight for Shakira, is now on hold as both the artist and her team work diligently to find ways to make it up to her fans. Shakira concluded her recent update with gratitude, telling fans, “I am always grateful for the unconditional support you give me. I love you very much, and I hope to see you very soon.”

With plans for rescheduling concerts reportedly underway for the second half of 2025, Shakira remains hopeful for recovery and looks forward to returning to the stage. It's uncertain precisely when those performances will be finalized, but Shakira's resilience and commitment to her art continue to shine through, even during these trying times.
