The February 23rd weather forecast for the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR) predicts severe winter conditions, with temperatures dropping significantly during the night.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) for the Republic, temperatures are expected to plummet to between -15 degrees Celsius at night and rise only to -3 degrees Celsius during the day. The weather will be mostly overcast with some breaks of sunshine, which won't be enough to mitigate the chill. Residents should anticipate light to moderate snowfall, with the possibility of heavier snowstorms later on.
“По территории Луганской Народной Республики облачно с прояснениями. Местами небольшой и умеренный снег, днем в отдельных районах метель. На дорогах гололедица, местами снежный накат,” officials warned, indicating caution for those who may need to travel.
The Ministry notes the considerable risk of icy conditions on the roads, which could pose hazards for drivers and pedestrians alike. With temperatures remaining well below freezing, ice will develop rapidly, and there may be limited visibility due to snowfall and blowing snow.
Wind speeds will also add to the chill factor, with northern winds ranging from 5 to 10 meters per second at night and picking up to 7 to 12 meters per second during the day. Gusts could reach up to 16 meters per second, creating even harsher conditions.
Specific forecasts for the city of Lugansk suggest nighttime temperatures will hover between -12 to -10 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will reach between -6 to -4 degrees. While the forecast indicates occasional snow during the morning and throughout the day, substantial accumulation is not expected, but icy patches on roads remain concerning.
Authorities recommend minimizing travel during winter storms and staying informed about the weather conditions as they evolve. Local services are prepared to respond to any emergencies and aid those affected by the weather.
“Температура воздуха ночью 15-10 градусов мороза, днем минус 8-3 градуса,” the report emphasized, underlining the need for residents to prepare for extreme cold and potential disruptions caused by winter weather.
All residents are urged to exercise caution and take appropriate measures to stay safe during this extreme weather event. Keeping emergency kits handy, avoiding unnecessary travel, and ensuring homes are winter-ready will make for safer living conditions during this challenging time.
