Severe Weather Hits Uttar Pradesh With Rain And Storms

Alerts issued for rain and thunderstorms across 45 districts as conditions worsen

In Uttar Pradesh, the weather has taken a dramatic turn as rain and strong winds have returned, prompting alerts across various regions. The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain and thunderstorms until April 20, 2025, with significant weather events expected on April 19.

According to the Meteorological Department, on April 19, rain and thunderstorms are likely in both the western and eastern parts of the state. An alert has been issued for strong thunderstorms and dust storms, particularly in western UP, where winds could reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour. In eastern UP, winds are expected to blow at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

On Saturday, April 19, several districts, including Amroha, Bijnor, Bareilly, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Rampur, and Shahjahanpur, could experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds of 30-50 kilometers per hour. Similar weather conditions are predicted for Deoria, Ghazipur, Gonda, Hapur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Kanpur Nagar, Kushinagar, and Lucknow, among others.

Moreover, the maximum temperature in the state may gradually decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, followed by a potential increase of 3-5 degrees Celsius over the subsequent three days. However, no significant changes in minimum temperatures are expected during this period.

In addition to the rain forecasts, the weather has already caused distress in some areas. In Meerut, two houses collapsed due to the storm, resulting in the tragic death of a mother and her nine-month-old daughter, while approximately ten others were injured. The storm uprooted many trees and knocked down electricity poles, leaving a trail of destruction.

On April 18, 2025, the weather changed dramatically in western UP, with cities like Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut, and Moradabad experiencing heavy rains and strong winds. Reports indicate that Amroha, Baghpat, Bijnor, Rampur, and Sambhal also faced thunderstorms and lightning.

As a precaution, the Meteorological Department has issued alerts for 45 districts across UP for rain and storms on April 19. The situation is exacerbated by the active Western Disturbance affecting the region, which has led to rainfall in the National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida.

In the last 24 hours, rainfall measurements included 2.4 mm in Ayodhya, 0.4 mm in Bahraich, 3.1 mm in Ballia, and 1.6 mm in Gorakhpur. The storms in Ayodhya and Gonda resulted in hail, causing further damage and leading to fatalities. Reports indicate that 13 people died due to the storms, with Ayodhya suffering the highest toll of six deaths.

In light of these weather conditions, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to remain alert and ensure that relief operations are in place. He reassured the public, stating, "There is no need for concern. The government is with you." Officials have been instructed to monitor the situation closely, especially regarding drainage in areas affected by flooding and to assess damage to crops swiftly to facilitate compensation for farmers.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates that while rain is likely on April 20, 2025, the skies may clear starting April 21. This change is expected to provide some relief from the intense heat that has gripped the state in recent days.

In summary, as Uttar Pradesh braces for severe weather conditions, residents are advised to stay indoors during storms and heed warnings from local authorities. With significant rainfall and wind speed expected, the state is preparing for the challenges that come with such weather phenomena.
