Severe Weather Hits Bihar With Rain And Hailstorms

Bihar faces heavy rainfall and strong winds, leading to alerts across multiple districts.

Patna and several districts in Bihar are currently grappling with severe weather conditions characterized by rainfall and strong winds. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for hailstorms and heavy rainfall, cautioning residents about potential threats over the next 24 hours. As the weather continues to fluctuate, residents are advised to take necessary precautions due to ongoing rainfall and lightning.

On April 18, 2025, Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 31°C, with winds blowing at 15-25 km/h. Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to around 24°C, while humidity levels will rise from 66% during the day to 77% at night. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Saturday, April 19, warning of thunderstorms and lightning in Patna City, with cloudy skies likely to persist.

The latest forecast predicts that the maximum temperature in Patna could reach 39 degrees Celsius over the next week, concluding on April 24, with predominantly cloudy skies expected throughout. A fresh alert has been issued for 25 districts in Bihar, warning of moderate rain and thunderstorms. Districts including Patna, Nalanda, and Muzaffarpur are among those affected, where residents can anticipate strong winds gusting up to 40-50 km/h, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

In the early hours of April 18, Patna and surrounding areas experienced strong winds, followed by a storm and light rain. The rain continued in many areas, including Patna, throughout the morning. According to the weather forecast, Bihar is expected to enter a dry spell starting April 21, marking a significant shift in weather patterns. Consequently, temperatures are anticipated to rise in the days following this dry period.

In a related report, the weather in Bihar has seen considerable changes, with dust storms, rain, and hailstorms affecting various locations. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for the next few days, particularly in northeastern and southeastern Bihar, where there is a forecast of rain and lightning along with strong winds.

On April 17, the IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in 12 districts, pointing to the severe impact of this weather phenomenon. The areas most affected include districts in northern and eastern Bihar, where the influence of rain, thunder, and strong winds has been most pronounced.

According to Ashish Kumar, Director of the local Meteorological Center, rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue affecting northern and eastern Bihar. Today, April 18, 2025, rain is forecasted across 32 districts, with 12 districts under an orange alert due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.

As the cyclonic circulation over eastern Assam expands, it has created conditions conducive for rain across Bihar. The IMD has reported that the weather is expected to gradually dry out in most districts, with temperatures potentially reaching around 40 degrees Celsius today.

In the northeastern part of the state, districts such as Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, and Katihar are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall today, with thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 km/h.

Light to moderate rainfall is also anticipated in districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, and Nawada. However, no alerts have been issued for districts like Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Gaya.

In the absence of rain, districts such as Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad are expected to remain dry, with temperatures likely to exceed 40°C. On April 17, 2025, there was a notable decrease in maximum temperatures in eastern Bihar, while temperatures in other areas increased.

The highest maximum temperature recorded was 39.3°C in Dehri, while the lowest minimum temperature was noted at 22.5°C in Chapra and Balmikinagar. As the weather continues to evolve, the IMD remains vigilant in monitoring conditions and issuing alerts as necessary.

In another alarming incident related to the severe weather, a man died in Vaishali when a tree fell on him during the storm. The incident occurred early on April 18, 2025, when Arvind Kumar, a 45-year-old resident, was struck by a banyan tree that collapsed due to strong winds and rain. This tragic event underscores the importance of heeding weather warnings and taking precautions during adverse weather conditions.

The IMD has reiterated its appeal to the public to remain cautious during this turbulent weather period. Residents are urged to stay indoors, follow safety guidelines, and avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms. As the weather conditions continue to pose risks, the department emphasizes the need for vigilance and preparedness.

In summary, Bihar is currently facing a significant weather event characterized by rain, hailstorms, and strong winds across multiple districts. The IMD has issued alerts to ensure public safety, and residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
