Stagecoach apologizes as passengers amid delays due to snow and ice conditions

Bus services across West Cumbria are facing significant disruptions as severe weather conditions, characterized by snow and ice, shaped travel on Monday, January 6. Stagecoach Cumbria reported the resumption of its services after canceling all operations on Sunday night due to the hazardous environment. The once popular X4/X5 services are temporarily out of service at several stops, including Embleton, Dubwath, Castle Inn, Bassenthwaite, Thornthwaite, Braithwaite, Threkeld, Penruddock, Stainton, and Rheged. Meanwhile, routes through Bridgefoot and Brigham can still operate, yet the changes complicate travel plans for many.

Similarly, the 30 Frizington service is now limited to Cleator Moor until conditions improve, as noted by Stagecoach. Passengers planning to travel to Carlisle are also advised to anticipate interruptions. The bus company urged everyone to check the status of their journeys online to mitigate any inconvenience.

"Due to the current weather conditions, we are unable to run the following services: Service 1 Ashby 08:30, Service 1 Westcliff 10:00, and Service 6 at 12:00. We apologise for any inconvenience caused," stated Stagecoach on X, formerly known as Twitter, illustrating the widespread impact of the inclement weather.

Across Cumbria, the situation paints a challenging picture for bus transport. The buses are also avoiding certain routes entirely. For example, the 62/69/64 services for Carlisle are skipping the West Walls stop en route to Denton Holme due to court closures.
