Severe Weather Alerts Issued As Storms Hit Madhya Pradesh

Multiple weather systems bring rain, hail, and strong winds across the state until May 11.

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing significant weather changes as multiple meteorological systems converge over the state. On Thursday, May 8, 2025, several districts reported rainfall, with clouds dominating the skies in the capital, Bhopal. The shifts in weather have resulted in a drop in temperatures across many areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, two cyclonic circulations, one western disturbance, and an active trough are currently influencing the weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh. As a result, hailstorms, rain, and strong winds have been reported in various regions, prompting weather alerts.

Senior weather scientist Dr. Divya E. Surendran indicated that the unstable weather conditions are expected to persist until May 11, 2025. "The weather has changed due to the western disturbance, trough, and cyclonic circulation," she explained. This combination is leading to thunderstorms and hail, particularly in western districts.

On May 8, hail was anticipated in Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Alirajpur, and Jhabua. Thunderstorms were expected to affect 22 districts, including Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Seoni. The weather department has warned residents to remain vigilant as conditions could lead to hazardous situations.

As for temperatures, Bhopal recorded a maximum of 31.7 degrees Celsius, while Indore registered 30.8 degrees. Gwalior experienced slightly warmer conditions at 35.4 degrees, and Jabalpur was at 35.7 degrees Celsius. Notably, Pachmarhi, a popular hill station, was the coolest spot at 30 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Narsinghpur was the hottest area, peaking at 39.4 degrees Celsius.

Despite the seasonal norm of May being the hottest month in Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures sometimes soaring to 47–48 degrees Celsius, this year has seen a different trend. The early onset of rain and cloudy weather has contributed to lower temperatures across the state.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates that unstable conditions will continue through the following days. On May 9, rain and storms are likely in Gwalior, Jabalpur, Morena, Bhind, and several other districts. The forecast for May 10 suggests that Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Ujjain will experience rain, thunder, and strong winds.

By May 11, over 40 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Rewa, are expected to see continued rain and storms. The weather department has urged citizens to stay informed and prepared for potential disruptions caused by the severe weather.

In summary, the current weather situation in Madhya Pradesh is a reminder of nature's unpredictability. With experts closely monitoring the systems at play, residents are advised to take precautions and stay updated on weather developments as the situation unfolds.
