Severe Storms And Bus Accident Prompt Urgent Aid Efforts

Local leaders in Nakhon Phanom and Prachinburi mobilize support for affected residents and victims.

Nakhon Phanom – On April 24, 2025, Dr. Alongkot Maneekasem, a member of the House of Representatives for Nakhon Phanom District 3, along with Mr. Preecha Maneesri, the district chief of That Phanom, and local community leaders, urgently visited the residents affected by severe storms in the Don Nang Hong sub-district and the That Phanom district. The storms had wreaked havoc, damaging nearly 300 homes and creating significant distress among the local population.

The recent storms have impacted seven sub-districts in Nakhon Phanom, resulting in over 400 houses suffering damage. Just two days prior, strong winds had caused destruction to more than 600 homes. The situation has been dire, with reports indicating that four districts in Nakhon Phanom were hit, leading to damage to more than 80 houses.

In a show of solidarity and support, Dr. Alongkot and Mr. Preecha immediately mobilized aid efforts, distributing essential supplies to the affected families to alleviate their suffering. They also coordinated with relevant agencies to expedite assistance, particularly focusing on establishing temporary shelters for those whose homes were rendered uninhabitable.

Dr. Alongkot expressed his deep sympathy for those affected, stating, "I feel sympathy for the incident that occurred and understand the difficulties of the affected people. In my capacity as a representative of the people, I will expedite assistance to the best of my ability so that the people can use their lives normally as soon as possible." This sentiment was echoed by Mr. Preecha, who directed local government organizations to assess the damage comprehensively and to procure materials for repairing homes.

Moreover, they have initiated a collaborative effort involving local government, private sectors, and community volunteers, including construction workers, electricians, and plumbers, to swiftly repair homes and restore normalcy in the affected areas. The storm has resulted in significant losses in the That Phanom district, but the collective efforts of all sectors are expected to help mitigate the damage and assist in recovery.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Prachinburi Province, the Social Security Office has been working diligently to support individuals affected by a tragic bus accident. On April 21, 2025, at approximately 4:00 AM, a tour bus operated by 407 Pattana Co., Ltd. collided with a truck on Highway 304, resulting in 52 injuries and 7 fatalities. This unfortunate event has prompted immediate action from the authorities.

Mr. Boonyasong Tappachaiyuth, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, has expressed his condolences regarding the accident. He has assigned the Social Security Office to investigate the situation, revealing that among the injured, 19 individuals were registered under the social security system, while 3 of the deceased were also insured.

In response to the tragedy, the Social Security Office is ensuring that the families of the deceased will receive compensation totaling over one million baht, while the injured will benefit from full medical coverage through the social security fund. Ms. Mara Sri Jai Rangsri, the Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, has also conveyed her sorrow over the incident and has dispatched teams to assess the situation and provide assistance to the victims.

The bus, which was traveling from Nong Khai to Rayong, encountered brake failure while descending a hill, leading to the collision with the truck, which subsequently ignited a fire within the bus. The tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance.

As part of their ongoing support, the Social Security Office has been visiting the injured to provide encouragement and clarify their rights to benefits from both funds available for the injured and the families of the deceased. Ms. Mara has emphasized the importance of road safety, urging all drivers to exercise caution and regularly check their vehicles to prevent future accidents.

Despite the challenges posed by these unfortunate events, both the local government in Nakhon Phanom and the Social Security Office in Prachinburi are committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected. Their coordinated efforts aim to restore normalcy and ensure that victims receive the necessary assistance in a timely manner.

In summary, the recent storms in Nakhon Phanom have led to significant property damage and community distress, necessitating immediate action from local representatives and volunteers. Similarly, the tragic bus accident in Prachinburi has prompted a swift response from the Social Security Office to support affected individuals and families. As both regions work towards recovery, the resilience of the communities shines through, showcasing the importance of solidarity in times of crisis.
