The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has announced frigid temperatures alongside severe weather conditions expected from February 25 to early March 2025. With maximum temperatures hovering around 16 degrees Celsius during the day and plummeting to as low as 5 degrees at night, residents across numerous regions are urged to prepare for frosty evenings and potential disruptions.
Throughout the day on February 25, the weather forecast indicates cold nights and significantly lower temperatures, particularly across Cairo, where the minimum temperature is expected to reach 9 degrees Celsius. Similar cold conditions are predicted for the northern coastal regions and northern Upper Egypt, with temperatures reported to decline sharply by evening.
The situation escalated previously when heavy rainfall and subsequent frost swept across many provinces. Alexandria, for example, witnessed continuous rainfall, resulting in numerous disruptions, including the closure of several local fishing ports. With wave heights rising to 3-4 meters, port operations at Alex and Dekheila resumed normally after initial interruptions.
Proactive measures have already been taken by local authorities to mitigate impacts from the adverse weather, particularly for potential flooding situations. The governor of Gharbia has instructed municipal heads to maintain rapid response teams ready to deal with emergency weather shifts. "We must safeguard our citizens, especially during heavy rains and strong winds capable of downing trees and electrical lines," stated Governor Ashraf El-Gendy.
On the contrary, other regions, such as the Red Sea Governorate, faced severe weather prompting the closure of Hurghada's seaport. The turbulent marine conditions halted all maritime activities, ensuring the safety of all vessels involved. Local officials remain on heightened alert, prepared to address emergencies effectively.
The forecasts suggest incremental changes by February 26, with slight improvements as daytime temperatures may rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius. Some areas might experience light to moderate rains, predominantly across western desert regions extending to northern Upper Egypt, albeit mostly cloudy skies anticipating no significant showers.
Weather conditions during this period have put additional strain on local services. The Egyptian General Authority has advised residents to exercise caution with visibility expected to be compromised by dense fog on many rural and arterial roads. Motorists are particularly urged to drive safely through fog-prone highways.
By March 1, predictions reaffirm continued mild weather, but with caution still recommended as various regions show potential fluctuations, especially as cold winds persist across Cairo, Rabat, and northern coastline.
The Egyptian authorities continue to monitor the weather closely, supported by dynamic meteorological plans established to provide residents with timely updates and comprehensive response strategies. Local officials are doing everything possible to maintain road safety and assist with ensuring public welfare throughout these challenging weather transitions.
