GLASTONBURY — A single-vehicle crash on Route 2 led to serious injuries late on New Year's Eve, prompting authorities to shut down the westbound lanes of the highway.
According to the Connecticut State Police, emergency crews were called to the scene near Exit 10 around 9:14 p.m. on December 31 to respond to reports of the crash.
Officers from Troop H found the vehicle had gone off the roadway and ended up deep in the woods, causing significant concern as serious injuries were reported from the incident.
The state Department of Transportation confirmed the westbound side of Route 2 was closed between exits 11 and 10 as of approximately 9:34 p.m., affecting many travelers as they prepared to ring in the New Year.
The police did not immediately release additional details about the individuals involved or what might have caused the crash. Investigators are working to gather more information and reconstruct the events leading up to this dangerous accident.
Authorities advised motorists to find alternative routes as they worked to clear the scene and assess the situation. This closure created significant delays for evening traffic, particularly as many were headed out for New Year’s celebrations.
"Serious injuries were reported," said the Connecticut State Police, who are continuing their investigation.
