SD Huesca Faces Third Consecutive Defeat Against Eibar

Despite a late goal from Willy, Huesca struggles to secure points in tough match.

In a disappointing turn of events, SD Huesca faced yet another setback, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against SD Eibar on March 23, 2025. This match marked the third consecutive loss for Huesca, a reality that casts a shadow over their playoff aspirations in LaLiga Hypermotion.

The match unfolded at Ipurua, where Huesca struggled to maintain their dominance. Despite having the backing of more than 400 fans cheering them on, the Altoaragonese team was ultimately outperformed by Eibar, who capitalized on their opportunities with goals from Bautista and Corpas during the second half.

In the early minutes of the match, both teams appeared evenly matched, but Eibar’s attack quickly gained momentum. Eibar's requirement to secure three points motivated their players, and they opened the scoring just five minutes into the second half. In the 50th minute, Bautista headed the ball into the net, cleverly positioning himself to beat Huesca’s defense.

Just five minutes later, Corpas doubled Eibar's advantage with a well-placed shot, leaving Huesca trailing 2-0 and fighting against the momentum. Huesca coach Antonio Hidalgo reacted quickly, bringing in substitutes Sielva and Hugo Vallejo to shake things up. Despite these changes, Huesca continued to find themselves pinned into a defensive stance amid Eibar's relentless pressure.

Yet, the Altoaragonese side didn’t concede defeat entirely. In the 78th minute, young forward Willy managed a breakthrough for Huesca, scoring a goal that reduced Eibar’s lead. The buildup to this moment saw Willy deftly maneuver through Eibar's defense before finding the back of the net, igniting a flicker of hope among Huesca's fans and players alike.

Even with Willy's goal, time was not on Huesca’s side. The subsequent minutes were filled with attempts to mount a significant comeback, but Huesca couldn’t cement their footing against a staunch Eibar defense. Despite outnumbering the attackers in the final minutes, their efforts proved futile as they closed out the match with yet another defeat.

Post-match, Hidalgo addressed the media with a mix of frustration and determination. He remarked, "The team competes always," emphasizing his belief in his squad's resilience despite the challenging circumstances they face. Hidalgo also reflected on the presence of nearly 500 Huesca supporters who made the trip, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support, “We felt them very close; now we need to reset and focus on the next match.”

Hidalgo acknowledged the difficulties that his team has endured lately, particularly how injuries to key players, including Soko and Sielva, have impacted performance. However, both returned for this match but were not back to full form. He indicated the need for a thorough assessment of their play and the dynamics of their offensive strategies. "We need to find out what’s wrong and where we can get back to winning," Hidalgo remarked, underscoring the urgency of competitive recalibration.

As it stands, SD Huesca currently sits in fifth position in the standings with 51 points, still in playoff contention but at risk of seeing the gap to direct promotion spots widen. Levante leads the charge with 59 points, followed closely by Mirandés at 58 points, creating a challenging scenario for Huesca as they head into upcoming matches.

Huesca’s recent losing streak comes at a critical juncture, raising questions about their solidity defensively and effectiveness offensively. Notably, they have conceded two goals in each of their last three outings, a stark contrast from earlier performances where they kept clean sheets and remained competitive.

In light of the poor form and their inability to create goal-scoring opportunities, it’s essential for Huesca to reflect deeply on their tactics and strategies as they prepare for the next fixture. While they've been resilient, Huesca must now focus on revitalizing both their scoring capabilities and defensive cohesion if they wish to return to their winning ways and keep the prospect of promotion alive.
