Scottie Scheffler Returns After Injury To Kick Off 2025 PGA Tour

The World No. 1 golfer reveals how homemade ravioli led to his hand surgery and how he's preparing for competition.

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top golfer, is back on the green, making his much-anticipated return to the PGA Tour at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. After missing the initial events of the season due to a hand injury he sustained over the holidays, golf fans are eager to see the two-time Masters champion back in action.

Scheffler’s injury occurred on Christmas Day, of all days, when he was attempting to make homemade ravioli at a rental home where proper kitchen tools were lacking. Instead of using traditional pasta-making equipment, he resorted to using—a wine glass. The outcome was far from ideal. “When you make raviolis, we wanted to make them from scratch, so you've got to roll the dough, and you've got to cut the dough… the only thing there was a wine glass,” he explained. “I had my hand on top of it, and it broke.”

The injury wasn’t just superficial; the broken glass pierced through Scheffler’s palm. “It's one of those deals where immediately after it happened, I was mad at myself because I was like gosh, that's so stupid, but you just don't think about it when you're in the moment,” he said, reflecting on his unfortunate experience. Despite the pain and shock of the incident, he was grateful for the swift response of his friends at home. “I'm just very thankful the community around me at home kind of sprung to action pretty quick and got the ball rolling,” Scheffler remarked.

He underwent surgery due to the severity of the injury, causing him to withdraw from several key tournaments, including The American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open. Although he wasn’t able to play, Scheffler maintained focus by reviewing his previous season, which was historic. With seven PGA Tour wins, he had one of the top seasons since Tiger Woods' iconic 2007 season and even snagged the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Now, with his hand on the mend, he is prepared to make his debut for the 2025 season at Pebble Beach, where he finished within the top ten last year. Scheffler begins play at 9:01 AM PT and will be competing against tough contenders, including Rory McIlroy, who will also make his season debut.

This week’s tournament, held from January 30 to February 2, 2025, boasts a substantial purse of $20 million, with the winner receiving $3.6 million. It serves as one of the PGA Tour's signature events, featuring 45 of the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Ranking. Fans are buzzing with excitement, wondering how Scheffler’s injury will affect his performance.

While joking about his cooking mishap, Scheffler noted, “I’ve heard nothing but horror stories since this happened about wine glasses, so be careful.” His light-hearted demeanor about the incident highlights not only his resilience but also his readiness to come back and reclaim his spot at the top of the leaderboard.

For Scheffler, cooking might no longer involve wine glasses, but golf is where he truly shines. It remains to be seen if he can replicate his success from last season at Pebble Beach, but one thing is clear: he’s eager to begin. No one expects his humor to dim the moment he steps back on the golf course.

With this tournament, Scheffler has the opportunity to not only prove his physical recovery but also re-establish his dominance as the World No. 1. Golf fans worldwide are undoubtedly rooting for his success as he fights to take on the season head-on.
