Scott Arfield Returns To Falkirk, Boosting Title Hopes

The former Rangers star aims to help Falkirk secure promotion to the Premiership after leaving Bolton.

Scott Arfield has made headlines with his emotional return to Falkirk, the club where he began his career, as he joins the Scottish Championship leaders on a short-term deal.

The 36-year-old midfielder, once celebrated at Rangers and with experience at several clubs, has returned to the Bairns after leaving Bolton Wanderers, where his stint was marked by limited playing time. Originally from Dechmont, Arfield's career at Falkirk spanned from 2007 to 2010, during which he made 124 appearances and scored 13 goals, leaving quite the legacy.

Now, following his underwhelming period at Bolton, where he had only started three league matches, Arfield eagerly looks to rekindle his past glory. "I've got really fond memories of my first time at the club; it was the first appearances of my career, and I wasgiven my first opportunities to play," he shared. His sentimentality is palpable as he adds, "Coming back to Falkirk is something I've always had as a goal... This club should be in the Premiership, and our goal this season is to get up there.”

Falkirk manager John McGlynn expressed his enthusiasm for adding Arfield to the squad: "Scott will be someone known to many, many Falkirk fans. It’s great to get him back here, but it’s not just a bit of sentiment; he’s areally good football player… I’ve heard so many good things about Scott, not only on the pitch but also his character, which will sparkin the dressing room as well which is hugely important.”

Arfield’s return not only fulfills his personal ambition but also could prove pivotal for the Bairns as they push for promotion to the Scottish Premiership. Under McGlynn's leadership, the team currently leads the Championship and aims to solidify their position at the top. Arfield's rich experience from his time at clubs like Burnley and Rangers, coupled with his desire to succeed, is expected to inspire his teammates.

After leaving Falkirk for Huddersfield Town back in 2010, Arfield had noteworthy spells at Burnley and Rangers, where he helped the team reach the UEFA Europa League final. His move to Major League Soccer with Charlotte FC was seen as another chapter, but upon returning to the UK, he sought competitive play, which led him to Bolton. Unfortunately, his time there did not meet expectations, making his transition back to familiar ground at Falkirk thrilling for both him and the fans.

Arfield’s legacy at Falkirk remains cherished, and he recalled his initial steps: "It was the first time I was involved as I started playing, and they gave me the chance to live my dream." Now, he’s back with the aim of helping them ascend to the top tier of Scottish football, starting with the remaining season.

McGlynn added: "He’s already shown he was desperate to come back and help give usthat push to get to the Premiership. I think his experience could be invaluable between now and the end of the season... He’s awinnerthat has been over the course many timesbeforewhileplaying at the top level.”

This mix of nostalgia for Arfield and hope for the future paints both player and club as ready for what lies ahead. Falkirk fans are delighted to see him return, infused with the belief he can exponentially contribute to their campaign, as they look determined to clinch promotion.”
