A study by BioCatch highlighted worrying increases—113 percent—in malware-driven fraud incidents, emphasizing the region's vulnerabilities as digital banking grows. This uptick is particularly pronounced in Argentina and Colombia, with sharp rises also noted in Brazil and Peru. Such findings point to the need for vigilance as cybercriminals adopt increasingly sophisticated techniques to exploit online banking systems.
Tom Peacock, director of global fraud intelligence at BioCatch, remarked, "What’s surprising isn’t necessarily the spike itself, but rather the volume of these spikes. We observed dramatic increases earlier this year, followed by bank efforts to neutralize these attacks, only to see another explosion mid-year."
