King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia has recently announced the naming of 15 significant squares in Riyadh after historical imams and modern kings, coinciding with the Kingdom's annual Founding Day celebrations on February 22. This initiative, proposed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to honor key historical figures who played pivotal roles in establishing, unifying, and developing the Saudi state over the past three centuries.
Among those contributors to be recognized are Imam Mohammed bin Saud, the founder of the first Saudi state, and several other historical imams, including Abdulaziz bin Mohammed, Saud bin Abdulaziz, and Abdullah bin Saud. The squares will also carry the names of modern Saudi kings who contributed to shaping the Kingdom’s contemporary era, such as King Abdulaziz, King Saud, King Faisal, King Khalid, King Fahd, King Abdullah, and King Salman himself.
These newly named squares are strategically located along major roads throughout Riyadh to maximize visibility and showcase the nation's historical identity and national heritage.
