Sanremo Music Festival 2025 Kicks Off With Star-Studded Lineup

The 75th edition features 29 artists competing for the prestigious title amid exciting performances and guest appearances.

The 75th edition of the Festival di Sanremo officially kicks off tonight, featuring twenty-nine artists competing for the prestigious title at the iconic Teatro Ariston. Over the next five days, from February 11 to February 15, audiences will enjoy performances from established names and fresh talents, making it one of the most anticipated events on the Italian music calendar.

This year's artistic director and presenter, Carlo Conti, is joined by co-hosts Antonella Clerici and Gerry Scotti, promising viewers both entertaining performances and unexpected moments throughout the festival. The opening night will see the 29 musicians present their songs for the first time, with voting conducted solely by a jury of professional journalists. At the end of the evening, the top five acts will be announced, showcasing the festival's competitive spirit.

Among this year's notable contestants are popular artists such as Francesco Gabbani with his song “Viva la vita,” Clara presenting “Febbre,” and Achille Lauro with “Reckless young people.” Other established names participating include Marcella Bella, Noemi, and Massimo Ranieri, who have all made their mark on the festival over the years.

The unique format of the festival not only includes these competitive performances but also rosters many exciting guest appearances. The lineup for tonight's show features musical superstar Jovanotti, alongside special guests Noa and Mira Awad, who will perform John Lennon’s classic “Imagine.” This spirit of collaboration enhances the festival's reputation as not just a competition but also as entertainment and cultural celebration.

Each night will showcase different highlights, including the eagerly-anticipated covers night on Friday, featuring renditions of famous songs by the participating artists along with special guests. For example, Giorgia will cover Adele's “Skyfall,” and Irama will perform with Arisa, singing “Say Something” by Christina Aguilera.

Carlo Conti is known for his engaging hosting style, and during his time leading the festival, he's maintained the tradition of long evenings full of musical performances and interactions. This first evening is projected to end around 1:15 AM, keeping with the festival's history of extended programming. This year, viewers can follow the event live on Rai 1, RaiPlay, and through radio broadcasts on Radio 2 for real-time commentary.

Each participant is vying not only for the public's affection but also for the chance to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest later this year. The excitement and anticipation surrounding the festival continue to build as both seasoned and new artists take the stage.

Throughout the festival, the presence of special international guests elevates the atmosphere, with performers like Duran Duran and Damiano David from Måneskin set to appear later on. The festival runs for five consecutive nights, each featuring different hosts and artists, adding variety and surprise to the schedule.

Finally, as the festival draws to its concluding night on February 15, special guests including Antonello Venditti are expected to honor the occasion with their performances. The culmination of the festival will not merely be the announcement of the winner but rather the celebration of music and talent brought together over this remarkable week.

Sanremo 2025 promises to deliver unforgettable musical moments and performances. With each artist bringing their unique flair to the stage, the excitement of competition will resonate through the halls of Teatro Ariston as fans eagerly anticipate the outcome of this year's festival.
