Sanremo Music Festival 2025 Kicks Off Tonight With Star-Studded Lineup

The iconic festival returns for its 75th edition, promising exciting performances and memorable moments.

The 75th edition of the iconic Sanremo Music Festival kicks off tonight, ushering in another year of music, entertainment, and excitement. Starting at 20:40 CET, viewers can tune in on Rai 1 or stream the event on RaiPlay, as 29 competing artists take the stage at the renowned Teatro Ariston. This festival is not only significant for its cultural footprint within Italy but also serves as the country’s national final to select its representative for the upcoming Eurovision 2025.

Carlo Conti returns as the host of Sanremo, having previously helmed the event back in 2016 and 2017. With his experience and charisma, he aims to continue the legacy of his predecessor, Amadeus, who brought innovation and spectacle to the festival during his five-year reign. For this evening's opening night, Conti will be joined by co-hosts Antonella Clerici and Gerry Scotti, both of whom have substantial backgrounds in live television and are expected to bring their unique flair to the festival.

Tonight’s festivities will not only spotlight the musical talents of all 29 artists but also carry a solid message of unity and peace. A significant highlight is the performance of the song “Imagine” by Israeli singer Noa and Palestinian artist Mira, bringing together their cultural backgrounds for a poignant moment on stage. Raf, famous for his international hit “Self Control,” will also grace the stage with a special performance, enhancing the festival's program.

The lineup for tonight includes renowned artists performing original songs. Among the singers are Francesco Gabbani with “Viva la Vita,” Achille Lauro with “Incocienti Giovani,” and Noemi performing “Se ti innamori, morirai.” Each of the contestants will present their songs for the first time, aiming to secure their place for advancing to subsequent nights of competition.

Voting for the performances will be exclusive to professional journalists from various media platforms, with results announced at the evening's end. Five top acts will emerge from this initial round based on their rankings, declared at random. This year, participants’ acceptance to represent Italy at Eurovision must be confirmed by February 15, following the festival completion.

The organization of the event stresses the importance of both established and new talents. The festival will feature two categories: “Categoria Campioni,” which includes around 25 established artists, and “Categoria Nuove Proposte,” spotlighting four finalists from the previous year's Sanremo Giovani. The inclusion of newcomers signifies the festival’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent.

This year’s festival is predicted to draw over 10 million viewers worldwide, with all eyes focused on the Ligurian town of Sanremo. The multi-night format will showcase performances every evening from February 11 through February 15, culminating with the announcement of the winner who may take the stage at Eurovision 2025, scheduled to be held later this year in Basel, Switzerland.

This evening marks just the beginning of what promises to be another memorable edition of the Sanremo Music Festival, continuing to build its legacy as one of the premier events on Italy's cultural calendar.
