As the sun sets over Madrid, the excitement in the air is palpable as the San Isidro 2025 bullfighting fair kicks off today, May 9, 2025. This year, the event promises to be a spectacular showcase of skill and bravery, featuring a lineup of renowned toreros and some of the finest bulls in the country.

The San Isidro Fair, which runs until June 8, 2025, with an additional event on June 15, is a highlight on the Spanish cultural calendar. It includes 21 bullfights, 3 novilladas with picadores, and 2 rejones events, all taking place at the iconic Plaza Monumental de Las Ventas. This venue is not only a historical site but also a modern arena that hosts some of the most prestigious bullfighting events in Spain.

Today's opening bullfight features bulls from Victoriano del Río and Toros de Cortés, with the esteemed matadors Talavante, Juan Ortega, and Clemente taking center stage. The event is set to begin at 19:00 hours, marking the start of what is expected to be an exhilarating season of bullfighting.

In total, 55 performers will grace the ring throughout the fair, including 43 matadores de toros, 5 rejoneadores, and 7 novilleros with picadores. This diverse group of talented individuals showcases the depth of skill and artistry present in the world of bullfighting.

Among the 23 livestock farms represented at this year’s fair, some will have multiple commitments, highlighting the rich tradition and variety of breeds involved in these events. With 8 different encastes on display, aficionados can expect a range of fighting styles and characteristics from the bulls.

According to the Union of Breeders of Fighting Bulls, cultural bullfighting events contribute a staggering 140 million euros annually to the State in VAT. The San Isidro Fair alone generates around 70 million euros for the regional economy each season, underscoring its significance not just as a sporting event, but as a vital part of Madrid's cultural and economic landscape.

As the fair unfolds, attendees can look forward to a series of exciting events. Tomorrow, May 10, 2025, will feature bulls from El Pilar for Diego Urdiales, David Galván, and Víctor Hernández. Following that, on May 11, Miguel Ángel Perera, Paco Ureña, and Ginés Marín will take on bulls from Fuente Ymbro.

The schedule continues with novilladas and corridas throughout the month, including a special bullfight commemorating the 120th anniversary of the RUCTL on May 18, featuring bulls from La Quinta for Uceda Leal, Daniel Luque, and Emilio de Justo.

Fans eager to witness the action can purchase tickets ranging from 60 to 300 euros, depending on seating preferences. The ticket office will be open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 14:00.
