Samsung Launches Galaxy A56, A36, And A26 Smartphones

The new mid-range series includes AI features and extended software support, making them attractive options for budget-conscious buyers.

Samsung Electronics has officially launched its new Galaxy A mid-range smartphone series, introducing three models: the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26. Set to launch tomorrow, March 2, 2025, these devices are expected to appeal to consumers seeking high-performance smartphones without breaking the bank.

Focusing on the mid-range segment, the Galaxy A series aims to compete with other popular options available this year, particularly from brands like Apple and Google. The new smartphones all feature 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates, making them visually appealing right out of the gate. Each model is equipped with impressive specifications, including 5,000mAh batteries, with the A56 and A36 supporting 45W charging—a significant improvement aimed at enhancing user experience.

One of the key features of the Galaxy A series is its long-term software support. Each model will come with Android 15, powered by Samsung's One UI 7, and all are guaranteed six years of OS and security updates. This development marks an increase from last year’s models, which offered four OS updates. The A56 model also boasts 8GB of RAM, whereas the A36 and A26 come with 6GB. The differentiation continues with the A56 featuring 128GB storage, which cannot be expanded as there is no microSD support.

The cameras represent yet another major selling point, with each phone offering distinct specifications. The Galaxy A56 is outfitted with three cameras: a 50MP main lens, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 5MP macro lens, complemented by a 12MP front-facing camera. The A36 shares the same configuration but uses an 8MP ultra-wide lens instead. The A26 makes slight compromises, including using a 12MP front camera and having only 2MP for the macro lens. Samsung has already positioned these phones around their enhanced selfie capabilities, with the A56's Best Face technology offering users the option to combine the best expressions from multiple shots.

AI features have also stepped up with the A-series improvements. Both the A36 and A56 integrate various enhancements, such as AI Select, which tailors suggestions based on current screen content. Other features include Custom Filters for personalized photography, Object Eraser to remove unwanted elements from images, and the innovative Best Face, which lets users capture optimal expressions during group photos. The improvements are part of Samsung's strategy to embed smart capabilities within its mid-range devices, previously reserved for higher-end models. Reported enhancements to AI include the ability to listen to articles via the Read Aloud feature available when using the Samsung Internet browser, making these devices attractive for users who prioritize multitasking.

Despite the innovation, there remain aspects where the A series lacks compared to flagship models. While the Galaxy A57 and A36 bring some AI features from flagship models, they do not include the full suite of capabilities attributed to Samsung's premium devices. The NPUs inside the A-Series' processors limit the functionality compared to those found within the Galaxy S and Z series. Nevertheless, Samsung remains optimistic and is hopeful about future improvements, expressing intentions to expand AI functionalities moving forward.

Pricing for the Galaxy A56 is set at $499, matching the Google Pixel 8a's launch price. The A36 will retail for approximately $400, with the A26 coming at the most budget-friendly price point of $300. While the A-series has traditionally been admired for offering high value, Samsung appears to be betting on the quality of these models to sustain their appeal against steep competition from Google’s Pixel line and budget offerings from Apple.

Customers eager to get their hands on one of these devices can expect different release dates, with the A26 and A36 scheduled for March 19, 2025, availability later this year for U.S. markets. Currently, interested buyers may pre-order the devices beginning today, promising to be significant contenders among mid-range smartphones.

The recent reveal of Samsung's Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 aligns with the brand's historical approach to offering well-equipped, budget-friendly options for consumers. With enhanced design, notable software commitments, and impressive camera capabilities, the A-Series equips users with multiple reasons to lean away from competitors and stay loyal to the Samsung brand. Market analysts are eager to see how effective these new advancements will resonate with buyers seeking value without sacrificing performance.
