Salernitana And Frosinone Draw 1-1 Amid Relegation Battle

A late equalizer from Ghiglione salvages points but leaves both teams unsatisfied with the outcome.

At the Arechi Stadium, Salernitana faced off against Frosinone with both teams eager to claim three points to ease their relegation concerns. But the match ended with the teams sharing the spoils, concluding at 1-1.

The first half was nothing short of disappointing for Salernitana, who started the game with little energy and focus. Coach Roberto Breda’s lineup, featuring Reine-Adelaide and Verde behind striker Cerri, struggled to find rhythm. Frosinone, boosted by the recent managerial switch to Fabio Bianco, looked far more vibrant and confident on the ball.

Frosinone capitalized on their dominance when Partipilo struck first, finishing off a well-crafted move to put his team up 1-0 at the 28th minute. Salernitana’s defenders faltered, allowing Partipilo to weave through their ranks with relative ease. Many fans were left scratching their heads as the home side barely mustered any attempts on goal, with Frosinone coming close to doubling their lead on two occasions. Breda, visibly frustrated, attempted to shake things up by substituting Reine-Adelaide for Tongya, but the decision did little to change the course of the half.

Faced with boos from their supporters, Salernitana headed to the locker room at halftime with bitter disappointment. The fans' restless energy filled the stadium as the players trudged off the pitch, searching for answers.

Things began changing after the break. Breda’s substitutions aimed to inject fresh vigor back onto the pitch, and the team took to the field with renewed determination. With changes made, Salernitana took their first steps toward recovery. It was evident they had adjusted their game plan, bringing more intensity and tempo to their attacks.

Ghiglione became the local hero when he found the equalizer at the 63rd minute. Following a deflected shot by Bronn, Ghiglione pounced on the loose ball, slotting it home to send the home crowd back to life. Suddenly, hopes soared for the granata as they realized victory was within reach.

The match escalated, with Salernitana pressing hard to claim the lead. Captain Cerri and Bronn both had excellent opportunities to make it 2-1, but they found Frosinone's keeper, Cerofolini, standing tall. He delivered spectacular saves, thwarting Cerri’s close-range effort and then denying Bronn with reflexive brilliance.

Despite their efforts, the home side faced another setback when they found themselves with a two-man advantage following red cards issued to Frosinone players Di Chiara and Kone. The extra bodies on the pitch should have worked to Salernitana's favor, but it was as if they were cursed. The team’s attacks grew frantic and haphazard as chances went begging.

Raimondo had the last chance of the match deep in injury time, but he shot wide, leaving the fans biting their nails. The whistle blew, sealing the draw at 1-1 and leaving Salernitana with more regrets than they had points.

Reflecting on the aftermath, many players acknowledged the need for reflection and improvement, with Breda addressing the glaring concerns over the team's inconsistent performance. "La Salernitana non ha saputo approfittare della doppia superiorità numerica e dei risultati favorevoli provenienti dagli altri cambi,” noted one report expressing the disappointment felt by fans and players alike.

Next up for Salernitana is another struggle for survival as they prepare to face their opponents on March 1. Time is running out, and the team's path to safety is becoming increasingly complex.
