Sakura City Gears Up For Spectacular Cherry Blossom Festival

Annual celebration features new events, decorations, and local cultural experiences for all ages.

From March 15 to April 6, 2025, Sakura City, situated within Chiba Prefecture, will transform itself with the annual Sakura Festival, aiming to turn the region 'cherry blossom' pink. This captivating festival, known as 'The Cherry Blossom Town, Sakura 2025,' is poised to attract visitors with its innovative series of events celebrating spring and the natural beauty of cherry blossoms.

The initiative is organized by Sakura City alongside Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd., and Chiba Green Bus Co., Ltd. It features the main venue at Sakura Castle Site Park—a popular spot renowned for its cherry blossoms. This year marks the fifth iteration of the festival, which promises to be bigger and more engaging than ever. A highlight is the debut of a thrilling mystery-solving rally, intended to guide families, friends, and couples around notable sites within Sakura’s historic town, all the whilst hunting for hidden cat characters. Successful participants who solve the puzzles will have the chance to win prizes, fostering both fun and exploration.

To complement the main events, numerous ancillary activities are scheduled throughout the festival period, encouraging local tourism and community engagement. Potential visitors are invited to experience the vibrant culture and charm of 'The Cherry Blossom Town, Sakura.'

The festival will feature the following activities:

  • Decorative Changes: Signboards will transform from 'Sakura' to 'Cherry Blossom' at key locations—including the Keisei Sakura Station, Sakura City Hall, and nearby postal services—as part of enhancing the festive atmosphere.

  • Cherry Blossom Colored Post: An iconic round post installed near the National Museum of Japanese History is set to be decorated by local high school art students. Visitors may even post letters from this beautifully painted post!

  • Free Scavenger Hunt: Running daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, participants can collect maps highlighting the festival attractions, with locations distributed at various stations and attractions throughout the city.

  • Complimentary Shuttle Service: On weekends and holidays throughout the event, free shuttle buses will circulate from the south exit of Keisei Sakura Station, making it easy for guests to explore.

On March 16, 2025, Sakura City will host the SAKURA Yosakoi Festival, where diverse teams will parade their unique costumes and performances at Sakura Castle Site Park. This family-oriented event showcases community spirit and cultural vibrancy.

There are also plans for ramen themed food stalls and food exhibitions, where local vendors will showcase their culinary delights. A new addition, the Shin-Machi Market, will debut on March 15, replacing the previous Sakura Festival marketplace with fresh produce from local farmers.

A separate exhibit titled 'Kakureneko' will be available at the Yumegasaki Hall and the Sakura City Museum of Art from March 15 to May 18, featuring illustrated books showcasing hidden cats amid cherry blossoms, adding to the whimsical charm of the festival.

With approximately 1,000 cherry trees blooming with 50 different varieties during the festival's peak between March 27 and April 1, the Sakura Castle Site Park invites visitors to relish the serene beauty, complemented by picturesque backdrops of historical structures.

Finishing off the festivities is the inaugural Sakura Tenka Matsuri scheduled for March 29, where traditional floats will display aspects of the Edo Period festivals, allowing attendees to engage with the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Visitors planning to attend the festival may benefit from special travel packages, including round-trip tickets to Keisei Sakura Station, which includes options for bus, rental cycles, and meal vouchers for only 3,900 yen. A public transportation pass will also allow unlimited travel within specific sectors, promoting easy movement throughout the festival.

For more details, updates, sightings, and participation particulars, attendees are encouraged to visit the official campaign site at The Cherry Blossom Town, Sakurai 2025. The festival promises to be not just about cherry blossoms, but also about creating memorable experiences, connection with nature, and celebrating community.
