Saito Yuki Launches New Food Facility In Hokkaido

The former pitcher aims to create a community hub with SUNNY TERRACE at the ballpark.

On March 21, 2025, a significant announcement was made regarding the development of a new food and beverage facility named SUNNY TERRACE at Hokkaido Ballpark F Village, the home of Nippon-Ham Fighters. This venture is helmed by former Nippon-Ham pitcher Yuki Saito, who serves as the representative director of the company 'mybase' responsible for constructing the facility.

'SUNNY TERRACE aims to create a space that is loved by both visitors and local residents,' said Saito. The facility, which he personally named, reflects his desire to offer a welcoming environment within the vibrant atmosphere of F Village, a location he cherishes dearly.

The two-story building is set to feature four stores on the first floor, including restaurants and a gym, while the second floor will soon boast a bath facility. It is strategically positioned in the Kamori area of F Village along the promenade leading to Es Con Field, ensuring easy accessibility for those visiting the park.

Scheduled to open in mid-June, the restaurants on the ground level will include renowned establishments such as 'Antica Pizzeria da Michele Hokkaido', 'Starbucks', and 'Hakodate Gourmet Sushi Kantaro F Village'. Saito expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I’m thrilled to have a new connection with the Fighters. I love F Village and can't wait to share this wonderful atmosphere with everyone. I hope many people enjoy their time in the ballpark."

This new facility not only serves to enhance the culinary landscape of the area but also symbolizes Saito's ongoing connection to his roots as he takes on this new role in shaping the community experience.

Meanwhile, excitement is brewing at Es Con Field as well, where students from Hokkaido Bunkyo University have been given a chance to showcase their culinary creativity. In November 2024, students from the Department of Health and Nutrition brainstormed original menu items as part of an initiative to bring innovative food options to the ballpark.

Divided into 14 teams, these students worked diligently to create unique dishes, with the anticipation that only one would be chosen for sale. The rigorous selection process involved reviewing their concepts and promising ideas before a panel from Tower Eleven Food Hall. Students crafted items like a healthy fruit-filled dessert and a hearty mixed steak bowl that included pork, chicken, and beef.

In January 2025, three finalists were invited to present their ideas at Es Con Field. Reviewers gave feedback on the presentations, encouraging adjustments for texture and flavor. One student described their creation of a colorful and vibrant avocado and corn dish, while another emphasized a comforting, delicious hot dog flavored with sour cream and onion. The students expressed their pride and joy in contributing to the ballpark's culinary options, remarking, "I conveyed what I wanted to share, and I feel satisfied with my presentation."

Ultimately, this creative endeavor culminated in the selection of the winning dish: the 'Sour Cream Onion Dock', a delectable hot dog featuring Nippon-Ham's sausage. The inaugural sales began on March 18, 2025, coinciding with the Fighters’ open game, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

Fans raved about the innovative twist on a classic, with many highlighting how fresh and delightful the flavors were. One enthusiastic customer noted, "It felt so fresh and new, unlike anything I had eaten before," while another stated, "The refreshing flavor paired perfectly with the meat's juiciness, making it a truly delightful experience."

For a limited time until March 23, 2025, the 'Sour Cream Onion Dock' will be available at Tower Eleven Food Hall, serving as a testament to the partnership between local culinary arts and the sports community.

These developments reflect a growing trend of collaboration within Hokkaido's entertainment and food industries, signifying a commitment to enriching local culture through innovative partnerships that enhance the overall experience for fans and visitors alike.
