Saga Sakura Marathon 2025 Welcomes 10,000 Runners

A community celebration unfolds in Saga City with marathon events and ambitions on the rise.

The Saga Sakura Marathon 2025 is set to be a grand athletic event, gathering approximately 10,000 runners from across the nation on March 23, 2025. With the starting line at SAGA Sunrise Park in Saga City, participants will embark on a journey that not only tests their endurance but also showcases the beautiful scenery of the local region. However, it's important for residents and visitors alike to be aware of significant traffic regulations that will be enforced throughout the event.

This year’s marathon is particularly anticipated, featuring both a full marathon and a fun run of approximately 10 km, winding through notable sites such as the Saga Castle Honmaru History Museum and Yoshinogari Historical Park. The engagement of the community is evident, as this annual event fosters a spirit of camaraderie and athleticism.

On March 22, 2025, the excitement kicked off early at the Runner's Night celebration held at Saga Station Square. The event welcomed citizen runners and featured Kanya Mitsuyasu, a well-known influencer in the track and field community who has stepped into his role as an ambassador for the second consecutive year. Addressing the gathered crowd, Mitsuyasu encouraged everyone, stating, "Let's enjoy ourselves together until the end." His enthusiasm set a vibrant tone for the days leading up to the marathon.

Mitsuyasu also shared insights on the course, noting that it is "easy to run" and that the local support is always warm. Additionally, he boldly stated his aim to break his personal record of under two hours and 28 minutes, showing determination to excel. Other ambassadors, including Naoko Sakamoto, participating for the first time, expressed their excitement and recognized the jitters that first-time participants may feel. “Enjoying yourself will lead to completion,” she remarked, reminding runners to relish the experience rather than just focus on the finish line.

Approximately 900 individuals attended Runner's Night, which also included a raffle where prizes featured local specialties. Among those lucky winners was Shunsuke Kashiwachi, a 38-year-old medical runner from Saga City who has been a fixture at the event over the years. After winning a pair of autographed shoes from Mitsuyasu, Kashiwachi shared his goal of finishing the marathon in under three hours and 30 minutes this year.

As the event day approaches, on March 23, the full marathon and fun run will commence at 9:00 AM, with participants racing from the SAGA Sunrise Park. The route will take runners past iconic landmarks like Saga Castle and Yoshinogari, culminating at SAGA Stadium. The community is encouraged to stay updated on traffic regulations which will affect numerous areas, including Saga and Kanzaki City, prompting officials to recommend that locals and spectators use alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

During the marathon, all participants will benefit from a live broadcast showcasing various perspectives of the race, providing an engaging experience for those unable to attend in person. Fans of the sport and local supporters can tune in to see their favorites in action as they traverse the meticulously planned course.

The Saga Sakura Marathon has grown into a cherished local tradition, marking a seasonal celebration that intertwines sportsmanship with the spirit of community. While unfortunately, the cherry blossoms may not bloom in time for the marathon, the festival spirit is nonetheless vibrant, driving runners and fans alike to come together and celebrate their shared dedication.

With the promise of an exhilarating day ahead, participants train diligently, and the community rallies in support of their efforts. Local influencers will continue to play a pivotal role in rallying enthusiasm and support, ensuring the event lives on as a highlight of the local culture.

The anticipation surrounding the Saga Sakura Marathon is palpable as runners prepare to push their limits, supported by family, friends, and local spectators. As this year’s event draws closer, one can only hope for clear skies and the exhilaration of crossing that finish line, marking another successful edition of this beloved marathon.
