Sabrina Carpenter hit the Met Gala 2025 red carpet for the third time on Monday, May 5, 2025, channeling her typical Old-Hollywood glam in a stunning burgundy bodysuit look, sans pants. The Louis Vuitton outfit featured a stiff white collar, brass buttons, and long suit tails, giving her a distinct look on the legendary carpet. Carpenter styled her hair in her signature voluminous blonde curls.
The "Espresso" singer, 25, embraced the Vogue fashion event’s theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," as she posed on the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps. She accessorized with simple earrings, sparkling rings, and a seductive anklet. Plus, the pint-sized pop star sported a voluminous head of her signature blond curls. Her look was inspired by Pharrell Williams, who told her, "You’re quite short, so no pants for you." In February 2023, Williams was named men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton.
Carpenter was initially reticent to show off the leggy look too soon; she was spotted exiting The Mark hotel in an oversized fur-look coat prior to the event. Last year, at the 2024 Met Gala, Carpenter channeled the night’s "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" theme with a Cinderella-esque ensemble from Oscar De La Renta while then-boyfriend Barry Keoghan played her counterpart, looking ever the prince in an outfit inspired by the character of Count Axel in J.G. Ballard’s short story "The Garden of Time."
Reflecting on her fashion aesthetic, Carpenter told W Magazine in 2024, "I’ve always had trouble answering this question, because when you’re a young woman, it can change and fluctuate a lot, and you don’t always want to label it. Some days I feel confident in short skirts and tall boots, and other days, I feel more confident in baggy jeans and baggy t-shirts." She also mentioned her admiration for old style icons, stating, "I look at old photos of Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin and even young Dolly [Parton]; a lot of the things they wore feel very close to the things that I like to wear now."
Carpenter’s look at the Met Gala was a dramatic take on a dandy tailcoat with an elongated train. "My look mixes Savile Row tailoring with Parisian corsetry," she explained. The striped burgundy wool is hand-embroidered and finished with crystal buttons, making it a perfect fit for the evening’s theme. She paired the look with sky-high platform heels, diamond rings, and a glossy pink manicure with silver accents.
While she skipped the pants altogether, Carpenter’s outfit still made a statement. As she ascended the steps into the event, she was asked about her experience at the Met Gala. "Never been to the bathroom once… tonight might be the night," she quipped, humorously noting that her previous looks made it impossible to remove her outfits. "I’m sure it’s a normal museum bathroom but I’m excited to find out."
Carpenter’s previous Met Gala appearances include her debut in 2022, where she wore a blinged-out, two-piece gold gown designed by Julien Dossena at Paco Rabanne. Last year, she was a full pop princess in a black strapless gown that flowed into a billowing Cinderella-blue skirt, courtesy of Oscar de la Renta. This year, she kicked off the Met Gala celebrations early, attending pre-gala bashes around New York City, including Moda Operandi’s cocktail party at The Twenty Two Hotel, where she wore a sequined baby-blue dress with a super-high leg slit.
Reflecting on her style evolution, Carpenter said, "It’s fun to create timeless looks with incredible designers that interpret the theme. My look for every year has been totally different. I love to see what everyone wears, and I’m really excited about tonight’s look." The singer, who is known for her flushed cheeks and defined eyes, also shared insights into her beauty routine, stating, "The glam can really make or break the outfit."
As she prepares to resume her Short n’ Sweet Tour in July, Carpenter remains busy and focused on her craft. She will perform at Hyde Park in London, with additional shows scheduled in New York City and Los Angeles in the fall. Following her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live with Quinta Brunson, where they exchanged height-related jokes, Carpenter continues to embrace her stature and style with confidence.
Carpenter’s third Met Gala appearance not only showcases her growth as a fashion icon but also reflects her ability to blend personal style with high-fashion elements. With each red carpet, she proves that she is not just a singer, but a trendsetter in her own right.
