Ryukyu Golden Kings Celebrate Historic Emperor's Cup Victory

The King's first championship win leads to community celebrations and exciting campaigns with JTA.

The Ryukyu Golden Kings have made history by clinching their first-ever Emperor's Cup title, igniting celebrations throughout Okinawa. This significant achievement has led the basketball team to engage actively with their local community and fans through various initiatives and events following their triumph over Alvark Tokyo on March 15, 2025.

The final match took place at the National Yoyogi Stadium, where the Kings emerged victorious with a score of 60-49, marking their first championship win. This victory not only brings pride to the team but also elevates the sports scene within Okinawa.

On March 17, 2025, shortly after their victory, the Kings’ Shareholder and President, Shiraki, alongside Head Coach Oketani Dai, paid a visit to the Okinawa City Hall. They reported their victory to Mayor Hanashiro Daisuke, who warmly congratulated them on their remarkable achievement and presented them with bouquets to celebrate the momentous occasion. Mayor Hanashiro expressed, "I was moved to see the players fighting until the end with determination. I look forward to everyone's continued success." This sentiment was echoed by Shiraki, who stated, "We are truly happy to have brought the Emperor's Cup back to Okinawa. We will continue to battle alongside the city and our fans to invigorate Okinawa."

To commemorate their victory, Japan Transocean Air (JTA) has launched a compelling campaign. From March 17 to May 31, 2025, passengers flying on eligible routes have the chance to enter a lottery for exciting prizes, including round-trip tickets with JTA and tickets to Kings games. Eligible routes include flights from Naha to Komatsu, Chubu, Kansai, Okayama, Fukuoka, Ishigaki, Miyako, and Kumejima, as well as connecting flights through Haneda, Chubu, and Kansai. Both Japan Airlines and Ryukyu Air Commuter flights are included.

The campaign aims to not only reward loyal fans but also to encourage regional residents to support the Kings and experience the joy of basketball. Participants must be JAL Mileage Bank members from Japan's region and have taken at least two trips on the eligible routes during the campaign period. A JTA representative expressed excitement over the collaboration, emphasizing how the initiative intends to strengthen ties between the team and the community.

The Emperor's Cup trophy will also be showcased at various community events, including the upcoming matches against Gunma Crane Thunders at Okinawa Suntory Arena on March 29 and 30, 2025. The local government is considering displaying the trophy at City Hall permanently, allowing fans to admire the symbol of the Kings' hard-earned victory.

Fans welcomed the Kings back to Okinawa at Naha Airport on March 16, 2025. A lively atmosphere filled with cheers and excitement echoed, showcasing the deep connection between the team and the community. Online, fans continued to express their joy and gratitude through social media platforms. Hira Ryogo of the Kings also shared his excitement via his Instagram on March 17, stating, "I am truly grateful for the opportunity to win, and I have had tremendous support from all of you!" With this personal touch, Hira strengthened the bond between the players and their supporters.
