Russia Honors Defender Of The Fatherland Day With Veteran Support

Observances include forums focusing on veteran assistance and community engagement.

On February 23, 2023, Russia celebrated Defender of the Fatherland Day, honoring the bravery and sacrifices of its military personnel. One of the notable observances took place in the Leningrad region, where Senator Sergey Perminov addressed the community, reflecting on the importance of this day.

Perminov shared heartfelt wishes for the strength and resilience of heroes, stating, "Let the heroes who protect Russia have strength, and they will surely hold on." His message was clear: as the country marks the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, thoughts and gratitude are directed to all who have defended Russia throughout its history, and continue to serve today.

The day was not just about remembrance but also about action and support. At the Expo Forum, the second regional forum titled "Together We Will Win!" was held, featuring over 130 veterans and servicemen from the region. This event emphasized community support for the armed forces, underlining the government's commitment to those who protect the country.

Opening the forum was Captain Valery Enin, a Hero of Russia and active participant in the Special Military Operation (SMO). He congratulated attendees on the holiday and expressed optimism for victory, highlighting the spirit of unity and determination prevalent among Russian forces.

During the forum, Sergei Galaev, the head of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund's regional branch, noted the fund has received over 24,000 requests for help since its formation. This reflects the overwhelming interest and need for support. Galaev pointed out the various areas where veterans are seeking assistance, particularly social support, medical care, and legal aid. "It is our great honor as employees of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland' fund to have you respond and come to our event. This is primarily indicative of your trust..." he stated, reinforcing the importance of these forums for veterans.

The first segment of the forum was dedicated to discussing the measures of support for participants of the SMO. Galaev explained their initiatives, such as the recently launched "Expert Line" project. This program facilitates consultations for veterans and families of the fallen, covering issues related to land, registration, migration status, and even legal rights violations during and after service.

Experts from various government departments, including the notary office and legal aid organizations, participated, helping veterans navigate the challenges they face both during service and post-combat. The aim was to provide comprehensive support, ensuring veterans have access to the resources they need.

The forum also highlighted recreational opportunities for veterans, emphasizing programs related to medical rehabilitation, employment, and training. The support works not only to help them integrate back to civilian life but to thrive thereafter.

Among the enriching activities was a patriotic concert, celebrating the spirit of defense and honor, and underscoring the cultural appreciation of military sacrifice. The event culminated with a ceremonial reception hosted by the governor of the Leningrad region, marking not only respect for those who serve but also promoting community cohesion and recognition of their contributions.

The Defender of the Fatherland Day observances across Russia serve as poignant reminders of the sacrifices made by many. They reaffirm the commitment of society to support these individuals and their families. These celebrations, highlighted by forums, speeches, and community gatherings, are instrumental not only for remembering the past but for ensuring a supportive environment for the future.

Through such initiatives and communal efforts, the legacy of those who defend the nation remains alive and continues to inspire future generations.
