Russia and Sudan have agreed to the establishment of a Russian naval base within the African nation, as confirmed by Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ali Yusuf Sharif. Following talks held recently in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Sharif stated, "We reached mutual agreement on this issue. We agreed on everything," indicating the finality of their discussions.
The pact, according to reports, outlines the establishment of a logistical support point for the Russian Navy, intended primarily for the maintenance, replenishment of supplies, and rest for crews of Russian vessels. The naval base is expected to accommodate up to 300 personnel and facilitate the docking of up to four Russian ships simultaneously.
