RTVE will play a significant role at the upcoming 28th edition of the Málaga Film Festival, which is set to take place from March 14 to March 23, 2025. The corporation is not only the official sponsor of the festival but also features 22 films, including eight documentaries, and will premiere the fiction ‘Weiss & Morales’. Special presentations will also be made for the new documentary series ‘HOPE! Estamos a tiempo’ on RTVE Play.
The festival's official competition will commence with the screening of ‘La deuda’, the third feature by director Daniel Guzmán, on Friday, March 14, at the Teatro Cervantes. Following this, films such as ‘Ione Batzuetan’ by Sara Fantova, ‘La buena letra’ by Celia Rico, and the Berlinale success ‘Sorda’ directed by Eva Libertad are set to be featured the next day. ‘La buena suerte’, directed by Gracia Querejeta, and ‘Muy lejos’ by Gerard Oms, starring Mario Casas, will also be part of this lineup on March 16.
Monday's lineup will include ‘La tierra negra’, featuring Laia Marull and Sergi López, and ‘Una quinta portuguesa’, directed by Avelina Prat, with Manolo Solo and María de Medeiros starring. Continuing the excitement, ‘Lo que queda de ti’ by Gala Gracia is scheduled for Tuesday, showcasing Laia Manzanares.
March 19 will witness the screening of the modern tragedy ‘La furia’ by Gemma Blasco, which offers poignant commentary on sexual violence, alongside ‘Todo lo que no sé’ by Ana Lambarri. The competition will conclude with ‘El cielo de los animales’ by Santi Amodeo, featuring Raúl Arévalo.
RTVE is also presenting ‘The sleeper, el Caravaggio perdido’, directed by Álvaro Longoria, among its documentary offerings for the official competition, focusing on the thrilling search for the lost painting by the renowned Italian artist.
Outside the competition, RTVE will showcase ‘Tierra de nadie’ by Albert Pintó, ‘La huella del mal’ by Manuel Ríos, and ‘Vírgenes’ by Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo during the RTVE Galas at the festival. These films promise to attract considerable attention during their screenings.

Attendees can also look forward to special screenings of seven additional documentaries including ‘Almudena por Almudena’, ‘Dios lo ve’, and ‘Paco Rabanne, una vida fuera de patrón’.
A notable highlight of RTVE's presence at the festival is the pre-screening of ‘Weiss & Morales’, the Spanish-German co-production starring Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Katia Fellin. This procedural series, consisting of four episodes filmed on the picturesque Gran Canaria and La Gomera, is set to capture the audience's attention on March 19 at Teatro Albéniz.
Finally, the documentary series ‘HOPE! Estamos a tiempo’ brings attention to global ecological crisis solutions and will present viewers with its first look on March 17 at the University of Málaga’s rectorate.
The excitement surrounding the festival continues with the 97th Academy Awards taking place on March 2, 2025. This year's nominations for best actress feature notable contenders including Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, who makes history as the first transgender actress to receive this nomination. Her role in ‘Emilia Pérez’ has placed her as the favorite, though her past controversial statements may overshadow her chances.
Gascón finds herself alongside veterans like Demi Moore, who is nominated for ‘La sustancia’ and aims for career revitalization after several quiet years. Other nominees include Brazilian Fernanda Torres for ‘I’m still here’, Mikey Madison for ‘Anora’, and Cynthia Erivo, who seeks her third nomination with ‘Wicked’. Each nominee showcases the range of talent and narratives celebrated at this year’s Academy Awards.
Catching the viewers' eye, Georgina Rodríguez recently paid a heartwarming visit to the King Faisal Hospital in Saudi Arabia, where she engaged with children and shared her commitment to future collaborations aimed at promoting smiles and positivity among young patients. The model and influencer has embraced charitable endeavors even amid her busy schedule, following her partner, football star Cristiano Ronaldo, to Saudi Arabia.
Lastly, notable performances on Spanish television are highlighted by the actions of ‘El Hormiguero’, which continues to outperform ‘La Revuelta’ featuring Hollywood star Chris Pratt, as audiences remain captivated by familiar figures like Los Morancos, who delivered impressive viewing figures once again.
