RTVE has revealed significant changes to its afternoon programming, marking the end of two popular shows and the introduction of new formats aimed at revitalizing its content lineup. Among the most notable shifts is the cancellation of the long-running shows 'La Moderna' and 'El Cazador.'
Director of TVE, Sergio Calderón, recently discussed these changes during his appearance on 'RTVE Responde.' He confirmed the cancellation of 'La Moderna,' which will be replaced by a new daily magazine program, intended to offer both entertainment and public service content. The introduction of this new format is seen as part of RTVE's commitment to keeping its programming fresh and relevant to viewers. "Hemos detectado la necesidad histórica desde hace más de una década que La 1 cuenta con un contenedor diario en directo. Aunará el entretenimiento, pero también temas y contenidos de servicio público con mucho humor, sentido de la diversión, pero también responsabilidad de sentido de servicio público,” Calderón explained.
'El Cazador,' hosted by Rodrigo Vázquez and airing since 2018, will adjust its schedule to air twice daily starting March 3, 2025, with broadcasts at 6:35 PM and 7:30 PM. This temporary measure is aimed at shortening the show's duration before its final cancellation, originally slated for April. Despite these changes, two other established shows, 'La Promesa' and 'Valle Salvaje,' will continue to have their slots with minimal modifications, ensuring some consistency for viewers.
Calderón emphasized the goal of maintaining viewer engagement. "Confirmamos nuestra apuesta por 'Aquí la Tierra', un espacio de corte divulgativo que promulga valores muy propios de la televisión pública y que, además, demuestra que esto es compatible con ser relevante y con tener audiencia,” he stated, underscoring the program's longstanding success and commitment to public service. While 'Aquí la Tierra' will undergo some adjustments to modernize its format, it will keep its core values and familiar content.
Further details about the new magazine show are expected to emerge closer to its launch date, slated for April. Discussions between RTVE and the production team at Fabricantes Studio are underway, focusing on the show's style and potential hosts. This aligns with the producers' vision of creating content reflective of contemporary societal values and viewer expectations.
The programming overhaul reflects RTVE's broader strategy to refresh its offerings amid changing viewer preferences and to capitalize on the popularity of mixed-format television shows. This move to integrate diverse programming types aims to attract new audiences and maintain the loyalty of existing viewers, as demonstrated by the recent success of shows like 'Sálvame' and others produced by Fabricantes Studio.
With these changes rolling out, viewers can expect fresh content and new formats on RTVE's La 1, promising to blend the entertainment they love with informative and engaging elements. Through these strategic adjustments, RTVE hopes to remain relevant within Spain's competitive broadcast environment.
