Rome’s Fiumicino Airport Crowned Best Of Europe Again

For the eighth consecutive year, Rome's airports excel with two prestigious accolades.

The Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome's Fiumicino has been crowned the best airport in Europe for the eighth consecutive year, according to the Airports Council International (ACI) World. The judgment is based on the quality of services provided to travelers and places the airport at the top of its category among hubs with over 40 million passengers for the year 2024.

This remarkable achievement of Fiumicino is paralleled by the Giovan Battista Pastine Airport of Ciampino, which was also acknowledged as the "Best Airport in Europe" among airports hosting between 2 to 5 million passengers. These accolades reflect the high standards maintained by Rome's airports, reinforcing their positions as key players in the European aviation sector.

With the score of 4.61 out of 5, Fiumicino not only led the rankings among 119 participating European airports but was also the only major international hub to receive awards across all categories, alongside Singapore. The survey, known as the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey, conducted by ACI World, involved over 700,000 passengers across 360 airports, assessing more than 30 indicators related to passenger experience.

Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, expressed his pride over the achievement. He commented, "This year, Fiumicino and Ciampino airports have been recognized internationally for the quality and services provided to passengers: it's not just significant, but also reflects the dedication, passion, and commitment of our teams and all the professionals working seamlessly at our airports."

Fiumicino’s nearly 50 million transits over the last year confirm its role as not only the largest airport by passenger volume but also one with the highest levels of satisfaction for travelers among all airports with over 25 million passengers annually across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Along with being named "Best Airport," Fiumicino won additional distinctions this year, including "Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff in Europe," "Easiest Airport Journey in Europe," "Most Enjoyable Airport in Europe," and "Cleanest Airport in Europe." These awards showcase the comprehensiveness of service quality at Fiumicino.

For the second year running, Ciampino stood out by winning the title of "Best European Airport" for its category, achieving recognition as the "Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff" for the first time. The formal announcement of these awards is set to take place during the ACI World Airport Experience Summit, scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, China, from September 8 to 11, 2025.

Looking forward, Troncone addressed the future traffic forecasts during his remarks, stressing the need for sustainable development at Fiumicino. He asserted, "To continue offering this level of innovative quality and service, it is urgent to develop the infrastructure of Fiumicino sustainably with major self-financed investments already ready, aiming to compete with other major geographically closest hubs and ensuring Italy's role as a prime global tourist destination and impactful platform for air connectivity at an international level."

Adding to the festive mood surrounding these accolades, Aeroporti di Roma also announced the launch of their new communication campaign on March 10, 2025, featuring ‘Adryx,’ the new mascot for the Leonardo da Vinci Airport. Described as an interstellar ambassador and expert of quality and innovation, Adryx will be on-site to interact with passengers, offering exclusive merchandise and engaging them through interactive airport-themed quizzes and games. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the travel experience and connecting more vibrantly with airport users.

Daniela Santanchè, the Minister of Tourism, added her congratulations, stating, "This prestigious award, alongside the successes of the Giovan Battista Pastine Airport, confirms the excellence of passenger services. It is not only significant for Aeroporti di Roma but for all of Italy, which has solidified its reputation as a key player on the international stage. Our ability to attract and manage passenger flows is fundamental to the country’s economic growth. This recognition serves as added motivation to promote Italy worldwide."

The recognition RA Fiumicino and Ciampino airports have received mirrors the commitment and hard work invested by Rome's airport teams, indicating their resilience and capacity to maintain high standards amid the growing demands of modern travel.
