Of these, 11 warned of dangerous animals spotted in various counties, while nine related to weather alerts, and one signaled a major fire in Bucharest. Between May 8, 2025, at 07:00 and May 9, 2025, at 07:00, hydrometeorological phenomena affected 19 localities across six counties and Bucharest, prompting interventions such as evacuating water from four houses, three outbuildings, 11 yards, and four cellars. On the same day, border police at Romania's external borders processed over 60,700 individuals and approximately 14,700 vehicles. Specifically, 32,864 people and 7,771 vehicles entered Romania. Since February 10, 2022, a staggering 11,590,727 Ukrainian citizens have crossed into Romania. This influx is part of a broader context where, since January 1, 2025, border controls have been eliminated at the internal borders with Hungary and Bulgaria, allowing for free movement to and from other Schengen states, except Cyprus and Ireland.
Despite the removal of border checks, Romanian border police are still authorized to conduct random checks within a 30-kilometer radius of the internal border to ensure compliance with legal standards. In the past 24 hours, they performed approximately 9,600 checks using the eDAC application. During these operations, authorities uncovered 97 illegal acts, comprising 59 crimes and 38 contraventions, resulting in fines totaling 24,100 lei and the confiscation of goods worth around 50,100 lei. Furthermore, 26 foreign nationals were denied entry into Romania, while two Romanian citizens were barred from exiting the country for various legal reasons.
The Romanian Border Police, in collaboration with other authorized institutions, continues to implement strict measures across all areas of competence to detect and sanction individuals who violate the law. They remain committed to facilitating border transit for travelers and providing support to citizens in any situation.
Overall, the recent actions taken by law enforcement and emergency services reflect a concerted effort to maintain public safety and order in Romania. With the continuous influx of individuals crossing borders and the challenges posed by emergency situations, authorities are working diligently to ensure the well-being of all residents and visitors.
