In a significant step towards modernizing Romania's pension system, the Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Bogdan Ivan, announced on March 26, 2025, that a unique application designed to provide comprehensive pension information will be ready for launch by September 2025. This innovative platform aims to simplify the process for Romanians approaching retirement by centralizing their pension contributions and work history data.
The application will allow users to access essential information regarding their pension contributions, length of service, and overall work experience. With over 80% of the necessary data already digitized, the application represents a major leap forward in the digitalization of public services in Romania. Ivan emphasized the importance of this project, stating, "We are in the final phase of this application. By September, it will be ready." This initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, which has been instrumental in digitizing the data.
One of the key features of the application will be its ability to integrate data for Romanians who have worked in other European Union member states. Ivan explained that users who have contributed to pension systems abroad will be able to consult their contributions directly through the app. This means that the Pension House will have access to necessary data from other countries without the need for lengthy correspondence or unnecessary travel for citizens. Ivan noted, "The Pension House will be able, through the application we manage, to obtain all the information from Germany, France, Spain, or anywhere else in the European Union directly, without having to carry out correspondence or send people on trips there."
This feature is expected to significantly reduce bureaucracy and accelerate the recognition of cross-border contributions, making it easier for Romanians to understand their pension rights. The ultimate goal of the application is to empower each contributor to access their complete professional history, understand their accumulated contributions, and make informed decisions regarding their retirement.
As the project nears completion, Ivan praised the efforts of his team, particularly Simona Bucura Opescu, who has led the digitization efforts. He stated, "My colleague Simona Bucura has done an extraordinary job, bringing over 80% of all this data into a digital format in just over a year. This process is ongoing, and once we reach 99% of the data regarding work history, we will be able to operate that option in the unique application of the state, allowing people to simply see how much they have contributed to the pension system and how much more they need to contribute if they do not have the full contribution period."
Moreover, the application will provide users with the ability to verify their contributions and the remaining amount needed to achieve a full pension. This functionality will be accessible from various devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Pension House. Ivan pointed out that this digital transformation is essential for the functionality of the application, stating, "The aim is for every taxpayer to be able to access their complete professional history, know exactly what their accumulated contribution is, and make more informed retirement decisions."
