Road Closures Announced For Dubai's New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Comprehensive security and traffic management measures planned for the 2025 festivities as authorities prepare for large crowds.

Dubai is buzzing with preparations for the grand New Year’s Eve celebrations as officials announce extensive road closures and security measures to welcome 2025. With millions expected to flock to the city for the iconic fireworks and festivities, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has detailed the traffic management plan aimed at ensuring safety and smooth movement around Downtown Dubai.

The RTA, along with the Dubai Police and other relevant authorities, has put together a comprehensive strategy to cordon off certain areas starting at 4 PM on December 31. This is to prevent bottlenecks as revelers attempt to arrive at the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall to witness the breathtaking firework displays. "Starting from 4 PM, key routes leading to these popular spots will begin to close," said Hussain Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic at the RTA. Roads affected include the Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, Financial Centre Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street, among others.

From 4 PM, closures will affect several major roads:

  • Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard
  • Burj Khalifa Street
  • Financial Centre Street (Lower Deck)
  • Al Mustaqbal Street
  • Al Sakeek St (also known as Al Sukuk Street)

Additional closures will follow throughout the evening: Al Sukuk Street will be closed starting from 8 PM, Financial Centre Street (Upper Deck) by 9 PM, and the Sheikh Zayed Road will gradually close from 11 PM. Authorities encourage those planning to attend festivities to arrive before these times to avoid inconveniences.

With such high traffic expected, public transport options have been enhanced. The Dubai Metro will operate continuously for 43 hours starting from 5 AM on December 31, ensuring commuters can travel between event locations easily. Passengers are reminded, though, to plan accordingly as the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will close by 5 PM or sooner if maximum capacity is reached. The Dubai Tram will also run for similar hours, offering residents and visitors another way to navigate the city.

To supplement public transport needs, 260 shuttle buses will operate to transport guests to key celebration areas. The RTA has also made arrangements for approximately 20,000 additional parking spaces across the city to accommodate the high number of vehicles. Visitors can find these spaces at Dubai Mall, Zabeel, and Emaar Boulevard, with shuttle buses available to take them to the festivities.

Safety and security during the celebrations are top priorities for Dubai authorities. More than 8,500 police officers and 1,100 fire department personnel will be deployed throughout the city. Six mobile operations rooms will monitor activities at 36 planned firework locations, ensuring crowd control and prompt response to any incidents.

Brig Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, Assistant Director General for Fire and Rescue at Dubai Civil Defence, emphasized the rigorous preparations underway. "We have inspected 257 facilities to guarantee they meet safety standards and are fully equipped for emergency situations," he noted, reiterifying the commitment to public safety.

Ambulance services are also ramping up support with 224 emergency points strategically located around the major event venues. Paramedics will be on duty throughout the evening, including specialized teams ready to attend to any emergencies. The Dubai Ambulance services' plan includes not just standard ambulances, but also mobile rescue boats positioned close to coastal events.

Public cooperation is seen as key to ensuring safety. Authorities are asking attendees to adhere to safety guidelines and report any suspicious behavior. Major General Khalil Al Mansouri of Dubai Police affirmed, "We call on the public to work with us to keep the event safe for everyone. If you see something unusual, please report it immediately." Residents have also been urged not to carry large bags to simplify security procedures at entrances.

Dubai's New Year’s Eve celebration is set to be one of the most impressive yet, featuring 36 firework displays spread across notable venues such as JBR, Global Village, and Atlantis. The city promises not just dazzling fireworks but also vibrant light shows including drone displays alongside the celebrations.

With all these efforts and preparations, Dubai looks set to safely usher in 2025, providing residents and visitors alike with unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re dining at one of the city’s high-end restaurants or joining the crowds at public viewing areas, planning your visit and adhering to the guidelines will be your keys to enjoying one amazing night!
