This Christmas season, holiday moviegoers have plenty to look forward to at Rjukan Kino, as cinema manager Robert Jenbergsen reveals the lineup for this festive week. Families seeking holiday entertainment can indulge themselves with various film options, making it the perfect escape from holiday chaos.
One of the standout offerings is the exclusive preview of Paddington in Peru, set to premiere on January 17, but for one special showing on Christmas Day. "It’s rare to have such a preview, and I hope the audience appreciates this early Christmas treat!" Jenbergsen expressed excitement over this opportunity.
Continuing the Norwegian theme, Team Havnaa, marking its debut on Christmas Day, is expected to capture the attention of adult audiences. Described as Norway's first boxing film, it dives deep not only to the boxing scene but also explores the intriguing lives of the Havnaa brothers, Magne and Erling. "It tells quite an interesting story about two brothers—one famous for boxing and the other known for his criminal activities," Jenbergsen noted.
For the younger moviegoers, Kvitebjørn - Østenfor sol og vestenfor måne, based on the classic tale of Kvitebjørn Kong Valemon, will begin screenings on December 26. The animated feature has already garnered positive reviews, scoring five out of six from critics, and promises to be enjoyable for both children and adults alike.
Previously, Mufasa, the much-anticipated prequel to The Lion King, premiered quietly on December 18. With origins tracing back 30 years to the original film, it offers nostalgia for long-time fans with familiar music and powerful storytelling. Jenbergsen stated, “It’s been heartwarming to revisit the lion’s universe and experience how it all began.”
Not limited to holiday themes, Conclave, which debuted just before Christmas, presents gripping political drama surrounding the papal selection process, drawing notable Oscar buzz. “This movie taps deeply on religious themes and the significant traditions during such important occasions,” Jenbergsen asserted.
To cater to diverse tastes, the cinema also features Nr. 24, the latest film focused on local culture and humor, alongside the arrival of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, set to premiere on December 28, starring Jim Carrey. The film spotlighting the beloved video game character will likely appeal to families and fans of the franchise.
Jenbergsen noted the strategic scheduling of films occurs to avoid clashes with traditional holiday dinners, allowing people to choose daytime cinema outings or fun activities together, depending on the winter weather. He welcomes locals and winter tourists alike to join for films starting early on holidays. "We’re excited to accommodate both permanent residents and visitors enjoying their vacation here," he added.
Wrapping up the festive program, Jenbergsen shares his well wishes as he encourages everyone to enjoy the holiday spirit at Rjukan Kino. "Join us for this unique cinematic experience, and look forward to new exciting prospects for the coming year with our state-of-the-art digital system coming in 2025!" he concluded.
The movie schedule includes something for everyone this holiday season, ensuring plenty of festive fun at the cinema.
