Rivian Transforms EVs With Fun Halloween Update

New software lets owners morph vehicles icons like KITT or time machine for spooky season

Rivian is bringing excitement to its electric vehicles this Halloween with an innovative software update scheduled for release on October 18th. Vehicle owners can now turn their R1T and R1S models not just from electric cars but also embody iconic pop culture vehicles such as KITT from Knight Rider and the Time Machine from Back to the Future. Isn’t it thrilling to think of your EV making you feel like you’re part of your favorite films?

This update introduces unique ‘Car Costumes’ and creative themes, allowing owners to spice up their driving experience. Rivian clearly aims to challenge the often mundane aspects of software-defined vehicles, opting instead for fun and immersive features. Once the owners update their vehicles and mobile app, they can explore these whimsical transformations.

To start, users will find the ‘Get Spooky’ card on their Rivian mobile application. From there, selecting KITT will activate the Knight Rider-themed experience. Not only will the main infotainment screen display KITT’s diagnostics, but it will also play the show’s familiar intro music, letting you channel your inner David Hasselhoff during your commute. For owners of the second-generation R1, it gets even more exciting, as the exterior light bar will mimic KITT’s signature scanner lights, creating the ultimate Knight Rider experience.

Fans of Back to the Future have something to look forward to as well. By accessing this update, they can select the Time Machine costume. The vehicle’s interior display will transform to reflect the iconic DeLorean interface, enhanced by sound effects mimicking the film's acceleration. It’s not just nostalgia; it’s the thrill of being able to script your drive the way you always dreamed!

Looking for something to get you truly spooked this Halloween? The Haunted theme does just the trick! Owners can opt for this eerie experience, where upon selecting the scarecrow Gear Guard, they can trigger spooky sound effects. Creatively, the Gen 2 owners will have color-changing exterior lights to amplify the creepy ambiance as they cruise through the night.

Rivian's Halloween update is more than just holiday cheer; it’s about enhancing how drivers interact with their electric vehicles. With various animations and sound effects embedded within the software, customers can ride along with their favorite fictional vehicles or transform their Rivian experience altogether. It allows owners to add narratives to their driving and share fun with friends and fellow enthusiasts.

Rivian is not stopping at just digital tricks. The update infuses the electric vehicle experience with some clever elements, like using the car’s outside cameras and sensors. Passersby could be jokingly transformed on the display as zombies, and cyclists could become headless horsemen. Just picture yourself driving with creatures from the otherworldly as your companions—definitely adds suspense to the Halloween spirit.

Alas, this playful update is scheduled to end on November 4th, just when the Halloween fun begins to fade. But Rivian hinted at future holiday-themed updates, which could mean more vehicular transformations are on the horizon throughout the seasons.

The update aligns impeccably with Rivian's commitment to innovation, engaging customers with fresh storytelling possibilities, and making each drive something special. With Halloween around the corner, Rivian sales might see a new burst of interest from fans eager to make their rides more than just transport.
