Rita Cetina Scholarship Cards Distributed Nationwide

Beginning February 5, 2025, students receive financial support for education

The 2025 Rita Cetina Scholarship program has officially begun distributing its much-anticipated financial support to families across Mexico, aimed at enhancing educational access and retention for secondary school students.

The scholarship program, named after the influential feminist educator Rita Cetina Gutiérrez, kicked off its card distribution phase on February 5, 2025, and will continue until March 28, 2025. This initiative is part of the efforts by the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) and the Coordinación Nacional de Becas para el Bienestar (CNBB) to provide economic aid and prevent school desertion among students enrolled in public secondary schools nationwide.

With the recent rollout, students will receive cards from the Banco del Bienestar, which will serve as the gateway to access their financial support. During the assemblies held at each participating school, parents or guardians must present specific documentation to collect the cards. Julio León, the National Coordinator for Scholarships for Well-being, highlighted the importance of this procedure, stating, "La tarjeta no tendrá saldo al momento de ser entregada, pero el primer depósito será en marzo," which translates to, "The card will not have funds at the time of delivery, but the first deposit will be made in March." This deposit will amount to 1,900 pesos every two months for families with one secondary school student.

Parents should also be aware of additional payments if they have more than one child participating. For each additional secondary school student, families will receive 700 pesos, making it easier for larger households to manage educational expenses. The program is particularly beneficial for those from lower-income families, as it aims to alleviate financial burdens and encourage continued attendance at school.

To obtain their cards, parents will need to provide several documents, including valid identification, proof of residence, and both the act of birth and CURP of the student. The documentation is intended to verify the identity and eligibility of beneficiaries effectively.

The Rita Cetina Scholarship is not just any ordinary incentive; it's imbued with a legacy of social justice and educational equity. By honoring Rita Cetina Gutiérrez, the program also pays homage to the significant contributions women have made to education and society. Claudia Sheinbaum, the current President of Mexico, emphasized the importance of this scholarship, noting its role in achieving gender equality and educational opportunities for all.

Communities across the country are encouraged to stay updated with information related to the scholarship via official channels provided by the CNBB. Parents can follow their social media pages and website, where announcements concerning payment schedules and distribution against specific areas will be prominently posted. The first payments for the scholarship are projected to start within fifteen days of completing the card distribution process.

Recent announcements suggest there may be potential for additional funding for other grade levels, including preschool and primary school students, as the initiative matures and expands its reach across education levels.

During these funding distributions, it's fundamental for beneficiaries to remain vigilant. There are strict operational rules governing the scholarship; failing to claim the awarded funds within one year may result in losing financial support, according to guidelines set by the SE. Legal custodians must also keep abreast of their responsibilities; they should act timely to navigate this process, ensuring their children benefit adequately from the support available.

Looking forward, all stakeholders—parents, students, educators—are hopeful for the positive impact of the Rita Cetina Scholarship. With proper management and awareness, it could pave the way for improved educational outcomes for thousands of children across Mexico, fulfilling its mission to bolster educational attendance and mitigate dropout rates.
