Retail Giants Turn to Body Cameras in Battle Against Soaring Theft

As organized retail crime surges, companies like TJX and Dollar General are employing new security measures to protect inventory and ensure shopper safety.

In a bid to confront a mounting wave of organized retail crime, notable retail giants such as TJX Companies—parent company of TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods—are equipping their employees with police-style body cameras. This move, which began in select stores last year, aims to deter theft and ensure the safety of both employees and customers.

The rationale behind this initiative lies in the psychology of surveillance. When individuals know they are being recorded, the likelihood of criminal activities diminishes significantly. As TJX's Chief Financial Officer John Klinger explained during a recent earnings call,
