Retail Expansion: New Business Locations Opening Across The US

H-E-B, Pizza World, and Sweetgreen announce new locations enhancing economic growth and community engagement.

DALLAS – Grocery giant H-E-B has announced plans to open its first flagship store in Dallas, Texas, marking another significant step in its rapid expansion within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The San Antonio-based company revealed it has acquired nearly 10 acres of land situated at the southeast corner of LBJ Freeway and Hillcrest Road. This new store will stand as part of the company’s continuous growth strategy initiated with its first Metroplex location back in 2022.

The land on which H-E-B intends to build is currently occupied by three low-rise office buildings hosting various tenants, including medical practices and small businesses. Before construction commences, H-E-B will collaborate with local neighbors and city officials for necessary re-zoning and planning. The company has yet to announce the timeline for building and opening the store.

“While we have a lot of work to do, we look forward to connecting with our neighbors, the city, and community stakeholders to create something beneficial for all,” said Mabrie Jackson, the public affairs managing director for H-E-B and Central Market.

Although this will be the first H-E-B store within Dallas city limits, the company already operates three Central Market locations and is set to open another Joe V's discount grocery store this year.

Meanwhile, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is witnessing local favorites Pizza World & Voodoo Brewing Co. relocating to evade upcoming construction on 42nd Street. The restaurant and brewing company, which have served customers at their current location for five years, announced they will close their doors this Friday before moving to new premises next to the Edgewood Road Hy-Vee in The Fountains.

Staff shared their concerns surrounding the construction via social media, highlighting the anticipated project’s execution meant the closure of 42nd Street, connecting major traffic routes. Drafting their decision for the move, they stated, “This project will close 42nd St., one of the key routes to our location.”

The impending road construction project, set to cost over $4.3 million, will involve comprehensive pavement reconstruction, along with the installation of new sidewalks, curb ramps, water mains, and storm sewer improvements. Road work is expected to initiate in Spring 2025 and continue through late 2025 or early 2026.

Although no exact opening date for the new Pizza World & Voodoo Brewing Co. location has been shared, the staff indicated they aim to open by January or February, aligning both businesses to debut concurrently.

Switching gears to Liberty Township, Ohio, health-conscious diners will soon have access to Sweetgreen, which is preparing to open its very first location in the Greater Cincinnati area. The new facility is being constructed at Liberty Center, situated conveniently at the intersection of Tyler's Place Blvd. and Liberty Way.

According to updates from Liberty Center, this new dining destination will encompass 8,900 square feet shared with Sephora and another retailer yet to be announced. Sweetgreen’s prolific menu, famed for offering healthy options ranging from elaborate salads to protein-packed bowls, mirrors the company’s commitment since its founding in 2007 to make nutritious food easily accessible.

“We are excited to bring new first-to-market businesses to the community,” said John Taylor, Liberty Center’s general manager, expressing enthusiasm for Sweetgreen’s inclusion among its ‘award-winning restaurant lineup.’

While the construction on the Liberty Center building is set to commence this summer, the new restaurants are projected to open later in 2025. Sweetgreen won’t be the sole newcomer; Liberty Center is also expected to welcome Zaanwood Furniture, Symphony Grill, and Waffle Land within the year, diversifying its offerings to cater to varying customer preferences.

Overall, these moves from H-E-B, Pizza World & Voodoo Brewing Co., and Sweetgreen highlight the dynamic retail and dining environment across the United States, continually adapting to meet consumer needs and regional developments.
