Restaurant Owner Saves Tourist With CPR Amid Struggles Of Manchester United

Somkiat Jira-amornrat acted quickly to save life as the Premier League club eyes urgent squad improvements.

On December 24, 2024, Somkiat Jira-amornrat, the owner of Ko Ta Chicken Rice restaurant located in the Mueang Phuket district of Thailand, performed life-saving CPR on an Italian tourist who collapsed during lunch service. The dramatic incident unfolded around 2 p.m. and has since sparked discussions about the necessity of basic life-saving skills following the restaurant owner's quick and effective response.

According to reports, two Italian tourists were dining at the restaurant when one of them suddenly lost consciousness. Although Somkiat was not at the restaurant at the time, his wife quickly called him for assistance. Upon his arrival, he discovered the tourist unresponsive and immediately laid him flat on the ground to begin CPR. “I wasn’t at the restaurant at the time, but my wife called me immediately. When I arrived, I tried shaking him and checking his chest, but there was no response. I quickly laid him flat on the ground and began performing CPR based on my previous training,” Somkiat recounted.

During the tense moments of the rescue, restaurant staff called emergency services, and fortunately, volunteers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived almost immediately, followed by emergency medical technicians from Vachira Phuket Hospital. A nurse who happened to be nearby also stepped up to assist, contributing to the collaborative effort to save the tourist’s life.

Somkiat expressed his satisfaction, saying, “The tourist’s friend later returned to the restaurant with tears in his eyes to thank me. I didn’t expect anything in return – it was just instinct to help save his life. I’m proud I could help. We want tourists to feel welcome and safe in Thailand, not leave with tragedy.” His actions demonstrate the importance of being CPR trained, particularly within environments where there are frequent interactions with tourists and visitors.

Social media has been buzzing with discussions and praise for Somkiat’s proactive measures, along with raising awareness of the significance of basic life-saving skills. With many noting his quick actions significantly contributed to the positive outcome for the tourist, the narrative around this incident serves as a call to action for others to familiarize themselves with CPR and emergency response skills.

Meanwhile, across the globe, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is also facing urgent actions and responses as his team navigates through tough times this holiday season. Currently, the Red Devils are struggling, having suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth the previous weekend and finding themselves languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed Amorim is desperate to sign a new left wing-back within the first two weeks of the winter transfer window. Shaw's injuries have created significant tactical gaps, and Amorim has recognized the need for reinforcements to bolster his squad’s reliability as they press on through the challenging season.

With Luke Shaw sidelined from the lineup due to injury troubles, Amorim is ready to set Manchester United’s recruitment staff on high alert to acquire this much-needed position quickly. The club is anticipating the winter transfer window opening on January 1 and aims to wrap up the acquisition within just two weeks. Amorim's decisiveness highlights the urgency of the situation, as he stated, "The left wing-back berth has been considered a problem," which underlines the tactical necessity of filling this gap without delay.

Shaw, whose contract will continue for another two and half years, currently earns up to £200,000-per-week, with concerns surrounding his reliability due to injuries. Amorim’s plans appear steadfast, as the club is already actively monitoring potential arrivals including River Plate's Franco Mastantuono, and considering the option of bringing back Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica due to his impressive development since his departure.

While Somkiat’s story reminds us all of the importance of readiness and rapid response to emergencies, Amorim’s measures at Manchester United reflect the necessity of immediate tactical decisions within the high-stakes world of professional sports. Both narratives serve as stark reminders of the significance of swift uplift under pressing circumstances, underscoring life-saving actions both on and off the field.
