Rescale Raises $115 Million To Revolutionize Engineering Software

The San Francisco startup aims to enhance simulation processes using AI, attracting major investors in the tech industry.

Rescale, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in engineering software, has successfully raised $115 million in a Series D funding round, bringing the company’s total funding to over $260 million to date. The funding round, which took place on April 7, 2025, saw significant participation from notable investors, including Applied Ventures, Nvidia, and Atika Capital.

Founded to empower engineers and research and development teams, Rescale focuses on advanced computing, intelligent data management, and applied artificial intelligence (AI). The company's software assists engineers in simulating complex physical systems, such as the flow of wind around race car designs or optimizing computer chips before physical prototypes are built.

Joris Poort, Rescale’s founder and CEO, expressed the company's mission succinctly, stating, “Our future breakthroughs are limited not by imagination, but by the speed at which engineers and scientists can turn ideas into reality.” This sentiment underscores the growing demand for innovative products, as enterprises increasingly invest in technologies that expedite time to market.

According to Rescale, the market for high-performance computing has expanded to a staggering $50 billion, while product lifecycle data management has reached $30 billion, and simulation software has grown to $20 billion. With such rapid growth, the need for a unified platform that integrates computing, data, and AI capabilities has become more critical than ever.

Rescale's software enables engineers to run full-scale simulations that require significant computing power and traditionally take about three days to complete. However, the new funding will help the company enhance its AI capabilities, allowing for faster predictions and simulations. Poort noted that AI models can run in less than a second, providing predictions with 98% or better accuracy on metrics like drag coefficients.

“That AI model can run in less than a second. It’s trained in all this data, and it can give you a prediction that’s within 98% or better accuracy on something like a drag coefficient,” Poort explained. This efficiency allows engineers to explore a broader range of design possibilities without the lengthy wait times typically associated with full-scale simulations.

Rescale has a diverse portfolio of enterprise clients, including Arm, General Motors Motorsports, Samsung, SLB, and the US Department of Defense. Collectively, these organizations invest over $1 billion each year in high-performance computing infrastructure to enhance their virtual product development and scientific research initiatives.

In addition to its engineering software, Rescale supports a variety of mission-critical use cases, such as speeding up drug development through molecular analysis, optimizing aircraft aerodynamics, and improving automotive safety via crash simulations. The funding will accelerate the expansion of Rescale’s digital engineering platform, which emphasizes advanced computing, intelligent data, and applied AI.

As part of its growth strategy, Rescale is implementing an ambitious roadmap that includes broadening its array of workflows and computing technologies available to customers. The company is also expanding its library of more than 1,250 applications and its global network of over 500 cloud data centers, partnering with technology giants like AMD, Amazon Web Services, Intel, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Moreover, Rescale is developing a unified data fabric and digital thread capability for all modeling and simulation workflows. This includes incorporating AI-native search, tagging, and automation to streamline operations for its users. The company aims to democratize and automate the use of leading AI physics tools and libraries, achieving design validation speed improvements of over 1000 times.

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang has expressed strong confidence in Rescale’s potential, stating, “Accelerated computing is the engine of the AI industrial revolution. With Rescale’s full-stack NVIDIA software and infrastructure, industries can push the boundaries of AI-driven modeling and simulation—advancing discovery, design, and engineering at an unprecedented pace.”
