Remi Bader, a prominent TikTok influencer known for her candid discussions about body image, has opened up about her transformative yet tumultuous health journey following weight-loss surgery. The 30-year-old, who gained fame for her engaging clothing hauls and body positivity content, recently revealed her struggles with binge eating and the drastic measures she took to reclaim her health.
In an interview with Self magazine published on March 26, 2025, Bader disclosed that she underwent a single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass (SADI-S) in December 2023. This newer bariatric procedure combines elements of both gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgeries, significantly altering her digestive system to assist with weight loss.
Prior to the surgery, Bader faced numerous health challenges. She had been struggling with debilitating back pain, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and even infertility fears. "I was in bed for like a month, if I even turned a little I would like scream in pain," she told Khloé Kardashian during the March 26 episode of "Khloé in Wonder Land." Her doctor had warned her about becoming infertile at just 28, and she was classified as morbidly obese.
Before deciding on surgery, Bader had explored various treatments for her binge eating disorder, including a six-week intensive program and multiple medications, including attempts with Ozempic and Mounjaro, which were ultimately ineffective for her. "I tried everything. I was desperate," she explained. The surgery was seen as a last resort after years of battling her weight and the associated health complications.
However, the recovery from the surgery was far from what she anticipated. Bader described it as "the most brutal thing" she had ever experienced, stating, "I was in recovery hours, hours, hours, hours, throwing up. It was not normal." Despite being discharged from the hospital after three days, her vomiting persisted for weeks, and she fell into a deep depression, which she later described as "the scariest time of my life."
During this challenging period, Bader felt isolated and overwhelmed. "I couldn’t tell people. I really—I wanted to die," she admitted, revealing that she was prescribed antidepressants to help manage her mental health. Despite the trauma of her recovery, Bader has since reported significant improvements in her physical health. She claims to have lost over 140 pounds in less than a year, and for the first time in five years, her bloodwork returned normal results.
"I will never regret having my time to heal," Bader said, expressing gratitude for her improved energy levels and overall health. She now experiences fewer binge-eating urges, stating, "My binge eating is better. I’m still struggling and I have those thoughts, but I can’t physically binge as much because I don’t have the room for it."
However, the surgery has also brought new challenges. Bader has had to adjust to strict dietary rules, such as not being able to drink and eat within the same 30 minutes, and she has experienced significant hair loss since the procedure. "Sometimes I’m out to dinner with friends, and I run to the bathroom. It’s also hard; I’m going to these events and dinners, and I’m constantly getting sick," she explained.
Reflecting on her rapid transformation, Bader admitted it has been confusing to navigate her new body while maintaining the same mindset. "It’s really confusing to be so quickly in a different body but have the exact same brain," she shared. She emphasized that her weight loss journey is more complex than simply achieving a smaller size, stating, "I never wanted to be this size; I liked being curvy."
Bader's journey is a poignant reminder of the complexities surrounding body image and health, especially in the public eye. She has faced scrutiny and criticism from followers, particularly regarding her weight loss and the methods she employed to achieve it. In September 2023, she announced she would stop discussing her body and health openly due to the negative feedback she received. "You should see the messages I get on the daily," she said, expressing the toll that public perception has taken on her mental health.
Despite the challenges, Bader remains committed to advocating for body inclusivity and self-acceptance. She recently launched a clothing collection with Sam’s Club, ensuring it includes sizes up to 6X, reaffirming her dedication to representing all body types. "I still believe in that," she affirmed, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in fashion.
As she navigates this new chapter in her life, Bader is determined to continue sharing her experiences, both the good and the bad. She wants her followers to understand that her journey is ongoing and that she is still the same person, despite the changes in her appearance. "I’m going to continue to be online and cry and share and not share and be me, and that’s not changing," she concluded.
Remi Bader's story highlights the often-overlooked emotional and psychological aspects of weight loss and body image, reminding us that behind every transformation lies a complex narrative of struggle, resilience, and self-discovery.
