Remembering Thelma Varner And John Wrenn

Communities mourn the loss of beloved individuals who touched many lives.

STAUNTON, VA - Thelma Ileta Sensabaugh Varner, 96, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at her home, leaving behind cherished memories of her vibrant life. Born on July 28, 1928, to the late Harry Tucker and Ida Miller Sensabaugh, Varner dedicated over 40 years of her life to serving as a Librarian-Media Clerk with the Augusta County School Board. Her love for literature and history was matched only by her commitment to her community.

Her family expressed deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided by her caregivers, Sandy and Steve Hall, Shirley Hall, Care Advantage, and Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, which allowed her to remain at home during her final days.

A lifelong member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Varner's spirit extended beyond her professional duties; she found joy in traveling, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. "She had a zest for life, always greeting each day with positivity, humor, and gratitude,” said her nephew, Howard Fulton Sensabaugh, Jr.

Varner had many passions, from tending her garden to relishing the simple pleasure of chatting with her neighbors from her porch. She looked forward to weekly dinners out and gatherings with her family and friends, reflecting her vibrant social life.

She is survived by her nephew, Howard Fulton Sensabaugh, Jr. (Ann) of Richmond; her nieces, Sylvia Wagner Baker of Staunton and Kimberly Sensabaugh Schultz (Donald) of Virginia Beach; and other loving relatives. Varner was preceded in death by her husband, William Oaklyn Varner; and several siblings and family members.

A funeral service to honor her life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment at Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family has requested memorial donations be made to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah or the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, reflecting Varner's contributions to her community.

Meanwhile, John Christopher Wrenn, 25, tragically passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. Wrenn, remembered for his energetic spirit and youthful enthusiasm, leaves behind family and friends mourning his untimely departure. A memorial service celebrating his life is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, directed by Rev. Cliff Wilson. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 1:00-2:45 PM prior to the service.

Wrenn's life, though brief, made an impact on those who knew him, and as family members come together, they will commemorate their memories and celebrate his legacy.

Both Thelma Varner and John Wrenn's departures highlight the deep impacts individuals have within their communities and the lasting memories family and friends cherish. Their lives, filled with love and commitment, remind us of the legacies we leave behind.
